Job Description

Part-time paid position working on a transactive energy market demonstration project for current electrical engineering or computer science students with experience in device prototyping

We seek candidates for an immediate part-time (10-15 hours/week) position assisting the project principal investigator in building a table-top micro-grid prototype to test a blockchain-enabled energy trading platform. The ultimate goal of this project is to demonstrate the feasibility of peer-to-peer energy trading on a grid with a high degree of distributed energy resources (e.g. solar and battery).

The ideal candidate is a current student in a program of study related to electrical grids, IoT device design and operation, cryptography, and grid modeling. The candidate should also be willing to take ownership of the tasks assigned, be capable of identifying challenges, and be a good problem solver. Initial tasks will primarily focus on testing and integrating retail components for the prototype system. For example, we’re building something like a Raspberry Pi smart meter to control PV and battery power flow onto a simulated grid. Python and C++ programming skills would be beneficial but aren’t essential.

The Energy Services Division at Strategic Analysis is a small team of engineers and scientists working on renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. Our offices are located in Arlington near the Ballston Metro station.

Position is available for immediate commencement with a project duration through December, with an option to be continued. Work hours are flexible. Option for mix of in-office and remote work location. Must be a US Citizen.
