Position Details

Family Resources is looking for an open minded, passionate Survivor Services Shelter Advocate. The role of the Shelter Advocate will be to provide case management, advocacy, and emotional support to all shelter residents under the direction of the Sheltering and Housing Services Supervisor. The Shelter Advocate will also provide follow up services with residents who have transitioned out of Shelter. In addition, the Shelter Advocate will provide emotional support and crisis intervention to callers on the 24-hour Domestic Violence-Rape/Sexual Assault crisis line.

• Shift Schedule: Saturday & Sunday 3 to 11 p.m. and Thursdays 6 to 10 p.m.
• Hourly position
• Position will be located in Davenport, Iowa

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• All Shelter Advocates will provide support and service management for a case load of shelter clients to assist with goal setting, advocacy, and referral
• Complete intake forms with all new clients; orient clients to the shelter facility, services of the program and expectations of residents in shelter
• Provide all new shelter residents with completed intake, orientation to shelter rules, and orientation to shelter facility
• Provide emotional support, counseling and advocacy to shelter residents
• Provide support and crisis intervention to crisis line callers
• Assist clients with immediate problem solving
• Provide crisis management and conflict resolution for clients
• Plan and facilitate client groups on an as needed basis
• Clean client, community, and office spaces
• Assist with organization of food and supplies
• Assist with organization and transportation of donations
• Complete documentation and statistical information in a timely manner
• Plan and facilitate groups for women and children at shelter
• Complete Daily Staff Logs
• Completer Work Orders and Tech Orders as needed
• Complete Time-sheets
• Complete ISIS contact documentation and day-sheets by weekly deadline
• Complete client success plans within required deadlines.
• Provide support and crisis intervention to crisis line callers
• Assist clients with immediate problem solving
• Provide crisis management and conflict resolution for clients
• Plan and facilitate client groups on an as needed basis

Key Requirements for all Survivor Services Shelter and Housing Services employees:

• Participate in 64 hour Survivor Resources training, and continued training as required by domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions
• Be available and capable to participate in the 24 hour on-call rotation.
• Demonstrate competency in counseling, networking and organizational skills
• Utilize non-abusive client interventions and daily interactions
• Take initiative and be receptive to needs of clients
• Ability to empathize with domestic violence survivors and their children
• Ability to work effectively with the homeless population
• Maintain a supportive environment for shelter volunteers and co-workers
• Provide sound judgment and demonstrate ability to make effective decisions
• Understand and adhere to program and agency personnel policies
• Understand and adhere to NASW, Iowa and Illinois Coalition standards and codes of ethic
• Understand and integrate evaluative feedback regarding job performance
• Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and Survivor Resources events
• Demonstrate an ability to work well in a collaborative effort
• Maintain working knowledge of community resources
• Participate in donation/errand schedule sharing

Qualifications
**Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED. Paid or volunteer human service experience preferred (with children, domestic violence and sexual assault victims preferred).

Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass driving background check and have reliable transportation.
