Position Details

Family Resources in looking for an innovative, passionate and organized Mobile Housing Advocate. This advocate will provide case management, housing advocacy, immediate shelter and related supportive services, and emotional support to all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes residing in hotels and shelters across the following five counties: Scott, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Louisa. The Mobile Housing Advocate will provide Rapid Re-Housing Services to all survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes residing in hotels and shelters across the following five counties: Scott, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Louisa The Mobile Housing Advocate must possess and exhibit exceptional judgment, excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Mobile Housing Advocate must be willing to respond to hospitals, police departments, and other facilities when a survivor presents as being a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes. 

  • Position hours can vary: 7:00 AM-3:00 PM | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM with some nights/weekends/Holidays to be expected.
  • 40-Hour Salaried Exempt Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain effective working relationships with other community resources, both internal and external in all 5 counties
• Transport clients as necessary
• Maintain working knowledge of community resources in all 5 counties
• Develop relationships with landlords in all 5 counties in order to facilitate client placement
• Maintain a housing directory which should at minimum include documentation of all contacts with housing providers including: corporation name if applicable, name of contact, address, phone, date of contact, and result of contact
• Participate in meetings in all 5 counties and trainings as required
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals and community members in the service area.
• Demonstrates civil and respectful behaviors valued within the organization.
• Attends all community meetings determined to be essential.
• Provides and accepts ideas and suggestions in a constructive and helpful manner.
• Exhibits good teamwork; is approachable cooperative and contributes to an overall positive and productive work/team environment
• Takes initiative in problem solving and utilizes resources such as team members and community resources to assist in addressing client/volunteer issues that arise.
• Provides support and input to team members that is helpful in finding solutions and allows for a team approach to solving barriers and challenges.
• Possess the ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/ needs.
• Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in diverse situations while producing results.
• Provides time sheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.
• Inputs daily services into the data entry system by the noted deadline each week.
• Assist clients in accessing mainstream resources and community resources
• Provide tenancy support (including tenant education, financial literacy, home visits, etc.)
• Assist clients in the housing search process, included (as needed) helping clients identify suitable housing options, accompanying clients to view units, advocating for clients with landlords, and assisting clients with paperwork
• Connect clients to services; advocate for clients with other service providers
• Provide sound judgment and demonstrate ability to make effective decisions
• Understand and adhere to program and agency personnel policies
• Understand and adhere to NASW, Iowa and Illinois Coalition standards and codes of ethic
• Understand and integrate evaluative feedback regarding job performance

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience required with paid or volunteer human services experience preferred. (Two years of experience as a domestic violence case manager may substitute for 1 year of college)

Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass driving background check and have reliable transportation.
