SCOPE OF WORK:

  • This purpose of this position is to perform a variety of skilled technical work in providing preventive maintenance and in locating underground fiber optic cables and electrical lines associated with TDOT’s ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) equipment. Responds to emergency situations to assist with repair and maintenance of traffic systems. Follows applicable safety procedures when working in traffic. Will operate equipment such as bucket trucks and cable locating instruments. The ITS Locator / Technician. must demonstrate the mechanical aptitude, mathematical skills, and computer literacy skills commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position's primary duties and responsibilities.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

      • Perform and/or direct the basic tasks of material handling, jobsite housekeeping, tool and equipment maintenance, and general labor.
      • Receive One Call tickets via email. Process Tennessee One Call tickets by logging into the One Call website.
      • Provide a Positive Response through the One Call website accurately recording the action taken for the ticket.
      • Update TDOT and Google maps via internet access.
      • Perform preventive maintenance for the ITS, including cleaning cabinets, weed eating around devices, and assisting with a bucket truck for CCTV maintenance.
      • Remove 30 inch wide X 48 inch long vault lids by use of a company provided device to lift and slide the lids to provide access to the tracer wire for performing locates and cleaning of the vault. (vault lids can weigh up to 220 pounds)
      • Preform locates for underground fiber optic and electrical cables. 
      • Provide technical assistance to customers as needed.
      • Assist with inventory maintenance, storage and control.
      • Able to operate a motor vehicle and a forklift.
      • Perform computer functions utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite.
      • Able to comprehend ITS blue prints and schematics.
      • Performs all tasks in a timely manner.
      • Understand and follow supervisor directions and instructions, both written and verbal.
      • Comprehends and abides by Stansell Electric customer policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Reports all violations to immediate supervisor.
      • Capable of operating hand power tools and meters or electronic test equipment.
      • Available to work OT and after hours as needed, which may include light travel and the ability to respond to after-hours emergency calls.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    The position requires:

    • Working in extreme weather conditions and elements, indoor or outdoor, including heat, cold, rain, mud, dust and snow depending on the job location.
    • Working in and around restricted/confined spaces, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, clean-rooms, raised metal floors or excavations.
    • Working on or around slippery or uneven surfaces.
    • Working in or around ditches, trenches and excavations.
    • Working in and around exposures typical of a heavy construction site.
    • Working from various heights of up to 120’ via ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other safe work platforms/areas.

    PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

    The position requires:


    • Lifting 51 pounds, unassisted, 20 times per day.
    • Daily removal of vault lids by use of a company provided device to lift and slide the lids to provide access to the tracer wire for performing locates and cleaning of the vault. (vault lids can weigh up to 220 pounds)
    • Constantly moving about on the feet.
    • Completing a full day’s assignment involving one or more of the following: bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching over head and repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
