The Role:

The Assistant Estimator has the responsibility for assisting the estimator with the full scope of infrastructure projects (including NC Department of Transportation (“NCDOT”), municipalities and commercial customers), and negotiating the pricing and changes in the scope and scale of work. Additional responsibilities include meeting with current customers and venders and soliciting new clients under the direction of the Estimator. The position receives guidance with respect to general objectives. In the majority of tasks and projects assigned, the incumbent assists with determining methods, work sequence, scheduling, and how to achieve objectives of assignments while operating within specific policy guidelines. The individual will practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned. The normal work hours are 7:00am – 5:30pm Monday through Friday and evenings, nights, and weekends as needed. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Complies with all safety policies, procedures, established safe practices. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety and Health.
  2. Monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of all team members and proactively addresses deficits.
  3. Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22
  4. Assist Estimator with identifying factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor.
  5. Read blueprints and technical documents in order to prepare estimates.
  6. Assist with collaborating with engineers, architects, clients, and contractors.
  7. Calculate, analyze, and adjust estimates. 
  8. Recommend ways to reduce costs.
  9. Work with estimator and sales teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients.
  10. Maintain records of estimated and actual costs.
  11. Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  12. Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  13. Performs other duties assigned.

 Education and/or Experience

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, but will consider other combinations of education or experience.

Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
