We are currently seeking a Region Safety Supervisor to join our American Lighting & Signalization, LLC team.      

Position Summary

The Region Safety Supervisor (RSS) will provide safety orientation and training to ALS Technicians, General Forepersons and Field Supervisors. In addition, the RSS will perform audits and assessments of the operations teams implementation of the Safety Management Process and adherence to company safe work practices and regulatory standards. The RSS will be assigned to support multiple projects, which will require frequent travel to different geographic areas. Training will be classroom or computer based as well as hand-on field related instruction. Working knowledge of electric utility street lighting and signalization construction, maintenance and operation. The RSS will be expected to be a subject matter expert in the following areas.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Conducts regular job site inspections and/or Job Behavior Observations (JBOs) with major focus on:
  • The four objectives of safety management.
  • Observing and correcting unsafe acts and at-risk behavior.
  • Evaluating Supervisor knowledge of safety training programs and supervisory skills.
  • Identifying of jobsite hazards.
  • Evaluating Crewmember knowledge of their safety-training responsibilities.
  • Observing and reporting on proper work techniques in accordance with the Safe Work Practices Handbook, Safety Management Process (SMP) Management Guide, Employee Handbook, and Corporate Guide to Incident Reporting and Case Management (CGIRCM), Wildland Fire Prevention Plan, Driver Management Program (DMP).
  • Verifying required documentation.
  1. Works with the Region Offices to monitor files for compliance with required documentation as specified by corporate and region policy.
  2. Assists with the incident investigation process.
    • Reviews reports, ensures that appropriate documentation is complete and filed.
    • Ensures that the investigation reaches the main contributing factors.
    • Ensures recommendations are appropriate for the causes.
  3. Coordinates/Rides with GF/Supervisors to ensure that they understand:
  • ALS safe work practice compliance.
  • Uniformity and implementation of the region disciplinary policy.
  • How to conduct a thorough safety visit; Job Behavior Observation.
  • Crewmember evaluations.
  1. Evaluates lesson plans and audits regional instructors performing new hire orientation, training and recertification of:
  • Street light installation, maintenance and retrofit.
  • Underground service troubleshooting techniques.
  • Commercial and non-commercial vehicle driving.
  • Crewmember evaluations
  1. Provide safety developmental training to technicians, general foremen and supervisors in areas such as Drug & Alcohol Awareness, aspects of the Safety Management Process, Claims Management, Risk Management, Safe Work Practices, Hazard Communication, Hazard Recognition, Human Performance Error Reduction Techniques and Ergonomics.

The Safety Supervisor will also:

  • Design and administer safety training programs responsive to company needs, contract requirements and/or Federal, State or local laws, regulations or practices.
  • Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process and tool improvements.
  • Evaluate new tools, equipment and practices that they are in compliance with federal, state and corporate rules and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic (semi-annually at minimum) audits of regional office files and records. Assist regional management in implementing corrective actions for any areas requiring improvement.
  • Evaluate any changes in the tasks required to be performed by crewmembers, and assure appropriate training is conducted.
  • Conduct feedback audits with crewmembers and supervisors to assure safety and skills training is conducted effectively and that the knowledge is being retained and utilized.
  • Represent company in regulatory agency compliance (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.) and administer application of Federal, State, and local safety regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise regarding safety and training issues.
  • Develop relationship and partner with client’s safety and training organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge of electric utility street lighting & signalization construction, maintenance and operation.
  • Working knowledge of company practices (ALS training can be provided)
  • Ability to work weekends/overtime as required
  • Ability to travel to multiple cross dock locations to conduct training as well as perform safety/training audits
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively conduct group and individual training
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, problems, and situations, identify areas for improvement, and determine corrective action
  • Ability to interact effectively with field representatives and customers in a proactive manner
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of PC’s and software (MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and operate in an unsupervised environment.
  • Possess a valid State driver’s license and Medical Card.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment such as a Hard Hat, work gloves, eye protection, and FR clothing at a minimum when working on the ground. 
  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work
  • Must pass a background check and pass a motor vehicle records check.
  • Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold.
  • Must be able to traverse various terrains.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Preferred:              

  1. Degree from an accredited university/college in related field.
  2. Utility Safety Professional certification (CUSP) or ability to obtain credentials.
  3. Clinical & Behavior Based Ergonomic Specialist certification (CBES) or ability to obtain credentials
  4. First Aid/CPR Instructor qualification or ability to obtain credentials
  5. Decision Driving Instructor certification or ability to obtain credentials
  6. Reside within the geographic area to be assigned.
  7. OSHA 500 certification

This position reports to the Regional Manager.
