Overview

UPSFCU is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our credit union to serve as VP and Member Lending Manager. The successful candidate will plan, direct, and control the member lending and credit granting activities of the credit union.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Manage the member lending and credit granting activities of the credit union. This includes overseeing and directing the lending function in all delivery channels. Ensure that all products and services of the credit union are promoted and that quality member service is delivered to all members in a prompt, efficient, personal and professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Responsibilities

  • Participate in the credit union’s long- and short-term strategic planning as it relates to the member lending programs.
  • Establish strategic planning parameters and monitor compliance with goals and objectives. 
  • Keep abreast of changes in the industry and changing trends and react to changes in a way that maintains competitiveness.
  • Conduct or assist in conducting market research on industry trends. Recommend programs and projects beneficial to the credit union and its members as a result of research, trends, member satisfaction surveys, etc.
  • Perform the duties of the CEO in their absence and coach other members of senior management.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and monitor adherence to the Credit Union’s Lending Policies and strategy; leads activities related to new product development, product implementation and risk assessment, with respect to lending programs.
  • Manage loan growth to match the Credit Union’s strategic plan, while ensuring quality control, efficient processes, and quick turnaround through workflow management and cross training.
  • In-house credit risk management expert including collections, bankruptcy, foreclosures, and loss mitigation.
  • Responsible for a leadership role in handling internal and external audits and Credit Union examinations.
  • Responsible for directing and monitoring centralized lending operations for the Credit Union, through subordinate managers/supervisors, to ensure that the Credit Union meets established strategic goals and objectives with respect to loans, deposits and distance strategy products.
  • Leadership and oversight of staff development including training program assignments, leadership development opportunities and regular department meetings/coaching. Ensure that staff is trained and cross-trained in all phases of their particular jobs and in all credit union products and services to ensure the highest quality of service to members.
  • Stay abreast of and provide thought leadership on new regulatory developments impacting lending policies, product compliance and loan underwriting guidelines. Implement and monitor procedures to comply with credit union policies and governmental rules and regulations.
  • Communicate goals and direction to Member Lending staff to ensure clear understanding of rules, regulations, requirements, and expectations.
  • Work with other department heads to maintain consistency in credit union policies and procedures. Develop and apply new policies and procedures for credit union operations.
  • Prepare budgets for all Lending areas and track on an ongoing basis for adherence.
  • Respond to complex or problematic member questions or problems as appropriate and ensure the highest quality of member service and satisfaction. Provide appropriate tools and authorizations to allow Member Lending staff to solve member questions or problems in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Manage and recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Analyze the workflow on an on-going basis to determine staffing requirements. Oversee work schedules for full-time and part-time employees in the Member Lending area to ensure proper service to members
  • Other duties as assigned

Member Lending Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently processes member loan requests and transactions.
  • Exercises solid judgment and decision-making skills in compliance with internal credit union policy and procedures and applicable state and federal. 
  • Evaluates and underwrites loan applications.
  • Coordinates and processes closings. Ensures that each loan is promptly and properly prepared, documented and processed. 
  • Notifies applicants of loan decisions. 
  • Looks for cross-sell opportunities at all times, asking the member for additional business. Maximize opportunities to sell Credit Union products and services to benefit members and enhance the quality and depth of member relationships and profitability. 
  • Stays informed regarding local and national economic conditions and legal & regulatory changes. 
  • Counsels members in relation to their credit history and offer necessary solutions and suggestions. 
  • Work closely with all lending staff to maximize average turnaround time and efficiency on all loans. 
  • Ensures proper maintenance, cleanliness, and security of work area, desks, equipment, etc. 
  • Ensures that the Credit Union’s quality and professional reputation is projected and maintained. 
  • Demonstrates technical expertise in the areas of mortgages, home equities, credit cards, collections and consumer lending. 
  • Qualifies as Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) and complies with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) registration process.
  • Assists with collections as assigned. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting preferred.
  • 7 – 10 years of senior management experience in a financial institution.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in all aspects of managing a financial institution.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness in utilizing them.
  • Skill in selecting, managing, coaching, motivating and developing staff.
  • Ability to embrace and lead change.

COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of industry-specific software, industry-specific systems and other web-based software programs, Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.
