Beckhoff Automation LLC is looking for someone energetic about software, control systems and new technologies. This individual will be based in the company’s regional technical center in the North Denver Metro area. This team member will be part of the advanced applications group. This group is responsible for developing elegant solutions for complex customer applications. The advanced applications group works with the local sales team, the Beckhoff product management group and the customer in determining feasibility and capability of applying Beckhoff technology to solve challenging application requirements. The group is tasked with quickly understanding complex applications, determining best use of Beckhoff technology, devising and implementing proof of concept testing and providing results to the local sales team to win high potential business.

TwinCAT software includes a real-time extension to Windows-Kernel used to execute code interacting with external servo motors, sensors and robotics for industrial machine control and other various applications. It also incorporates several programming languages (based on IEC-61131 plus C++) and the ability to extend functionalities using languages such as C#, C++, JavaScript, HTML5, etc., requiring advanced software and troubleshooting skills. Extended functionalities reach into other areas through integration of MATLAB/Simulink models, condition monitoring libraries, analytics tools and many hardware signal input/output modules.

Responsibilities 

  • high level product implementation leadership for the following products:
    • TwinCAT engineering and runtime
    • motion control hardware and software
    • emerging Beckhoff technologies (TwinCAT vision, mechatronics, analytics, etc.)
    • all additional TwinCAT function products (e.g. filter designer, database, communication protocols, PID controls, etc.)
  • project resource for the Beckhoff US sales force and product management group
  • effectively communicate with internal and external customers to determine application requirements and demonstrate Beckhoff product capabilities
  • develop and implement proof of concept hardware/software to eliminate technical risk for advanced customer applications
  • test beta software products and give feedback to development teams
  • build and maintain an advanced level of knowledge of Beckhoff Automation products and related technologies
  • embrace challenges and expand skillset when faced with new challenges/questions
  • other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, computer science or related technical field from a four-year college or technical school; 5+ years’ relevant experience
  • experience with control theory, motion control, robotics, EtherCAT and other fieldbus systems
  • demonstrated technical experience with industrial automation software and hardware
  • experience with PLC programming languages (IEC-61131)
  • working knowledge of protocols and fieldbuses such as TCP/IP, MQTT, Modbus/TCP, CANopen, Profinet, etc.
  • experience with computer hardware, operating systems and software development tools
  • ability to handle multiple issues, prioritizing and effectively managing team resources
  • ability to relate well in a customer service role with technology end users.
  • excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability and confidence to present complex information to internal and external customers
  • active and valid driver’s license with the ability to travel
  • approximately 25 % travel

Preferred education and experience

  • familiar with C/C++ or C# programming
  • familiar with object oriented design and programming methodologies (OOP)
  • familiar with MATLAB/Simulink
  • familiar with web programming technologies such as JavaScript, CSS and HTML5
