The QA Supervisor is responsible for supervising and managing lab technicians with hands on experience of quality checks on incoming raw ingredients, production in process and finish product.  Additional quality related projects will be assigned.  All issues shall be communicated to the VP, Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and prioritize lab technicians to analyze pre-shipment samples, incoming raw ingredients, and finished products according to USDA standards or lab training;
  • Document and interpret results, compare to internal specification or vendor/customer specification to ensure product quality is within acceptance. Discuss and report to related personnel for further action.
  • Supervise lab technicians to inspect and obtain samples from control points on the production/packaging line and perform various quality tests on a timely basis.
  • Communicate and follow through with operations regarding production issues and quality concerns. Stop production if needed and communicate information to all managers for follow-up action.
  • Maintain lab supplies inventory and ordering with manager approval
  • Responsible for the updates of lab procedures and training with annual refresher training.
  • Perform organoleptic analysis on all ingredients/products; providing comments on smell, taste, texture and color.
  • Responsible for Hold procedure, Shelf-life Extension procedure and Scheduled Testing program. Maintain all relevant reports and follow through procedure including communicating with operators, warehouse personnel, supervisor and managers.
  • Manage and organization all lab related retained samples, documents and database.
  • Perform individual or group projects assigned by the managers. Prioritize projects with lab technicians.
  • Participate in lab technician hiring interviews and provide feedback. Responsible for new lab technician on board training.
  • Generate and provide customers with Certificate of Analysis
  • Manage, arrange or ship samples to outside laboratories, headquarters and potential customers. Ensure all customers required testing is performed.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company standards and established safety procedures.

This position requires a person experienced and/or ability in the following:

  • Knowledge of manufacture environment, lab equipment and practices
  • Proficient in MS Office software including Word, Excel and Access
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally with fellow employees
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Must be reliable and a team player with ability to work well others
  • Able to work with little supervision
  • Able to work any shift and overtime when needed
  • Fully understanding of GMP’s, HACCP, Good Lab Practices and all Safety Rules
  • May require to visit other InHarvest facilities, customers or vendors

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required

  1. Associate’s degree, or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  2. 4 years of related work experience in a food industry environment.
  3. Some training in general safety, performance management, quality system awareness.
  4. Prior Quality Supervisor Experience 

 

Preferred

  1. Bachelor’s degree, in Food Science or similar; or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  2. 5-8 years of experience in a food production environment. Previous quality leadership experience.
  3. Experience in safety, compliance, documentation, team management, harassment prevention.
