Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) owns Pumpkin Hollow - the only large-scale, fully-permitted copper project in North America. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold and silver. Initial production is planned by end of 2019. With global mine supply declining and demand increasing, this is the right project at the right time.

 

Purpose of Position

The Process Electrician will be responsible for the safe definition, trouble shooting, planning and completion of process related electrical maintenance activities. Working closely with Process Operations and the Process Maintenance Planner, the Process Electrician will define the requirements to complete work with completion occurring principally during scheduled shutdowns to achieve planned mechanical availability and production targets.

 

Accountability

The Process Electrician will report directly to the site Process Maintenance General Foreman Manager in all aspects of process plant operations and maintenance.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to working safely as an advocate and leader of a safe work culture for all employees
  • Actively participate in daily safety meetings
  • Provide leadership to prioritize work assignments
  • Build effective working relationships with all departments
  • Provide leadership by administering goals and standards of performance in all areas
  • Provide leadership in the effective implementation and support of a work order-based, preventive maintenance program
  • Provide input for formulating and defining policy at the mine site level
  • Provide positive mentoring to less experienced tradesmen
  • Review reports and work plans, perform spot inspections of equipment
  • Provide technical assistance for failure analysis on related components in conjunction with equipment manufacturers
  • Regularly support and complete field instrument calibration and PLC programming, potentially involving contracted support if required
  • Regularly complete and record observations from site grounding grid tests as well as thermography (infra-red) checks of all powered equipment, switchgear and MCC’s both on-surface and underground
  • Coordinate and interface activities as required with NV Energy and Others with respect to high voltage power supply and distribution on-site
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Health and Safety

  • Ensure that all safety procedures and regulatory guidelines are followed
  • Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices
  • Regularly inspect and follow-up with process maintenance to ensure the safe use, condition and functionality of electrical hot work (insulating) gloves, non-conductive ladders, slings and shop tools
  • Participate in health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required

 

Knowledge/Education

  • Minimum 5 years of plant electrical maintenance experience required
  • Electrician journeyman license is preferred
  • Experience with U.S. Mining Regulatory Agencies
  • Familiarity with electrical maintenance procedures, including preventive non-destructive diagnostic methodologies in an industrial environment required
  • Ability to communicate with technical specialists and to interpret technical drawings and specification documents
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well with others required including process operations, technical specialists, site operators, contractors, supply chain and other functions
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions of position required
  • A passion for innovative concepts that can transform the business

 

Skills/Abilities

  • General knowledge of health & safety, mining, maintenance and accounting functions
  • Knowledge of all phases of copper processing as it pertains to associated equipment
  • Knowledge and experience developing policies and procedures for the organization

Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements

  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

 

Work Schedule, Personal Protective/Other Equipment

The incumbent is expected to work a rotating day shift schedule, with some call-outs possible during night shift for infrequent occurrences. The incumbent is responsible for supplying and maintaining his/her own tools. Personal Protective Equipment required and to be worn for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
