Non-Destructive Testing Inspector – Entry Level                            

ColonialWebb is seeking a Non-Destructive Testing Inspector to join our Industrial Refrigeration team. 

As a member of the Process Safety Services team, you will conduct Non – Destructive Testing inspections using ultrasonic testing (UT) equipment in a field environment.  The NDT inspector takes sample measurements of piping and vessel wall thickness at customer sites to determine if systems are compliant with mechanical integrity standards.  Reports are compiled and provided to the customer as required by the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) standard.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Non-Destructive Testing Inspector will carry out scheduled piping and vessel inspections at customer sites based on the project scope and recommendations from mechanical integrity audits conducted by PSM coordinators.   Initial training in Colonialwebb NDT methods and ongoing training in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements will be provided.  Experience gained from your work with Senior PSM Coordinators could also lead to a role as an associate PSM Coordinator within 2 – 3 years.

LOCATION:  Ideal candidate will be located in VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, TN within close proximity to a regional or larger airport.  (Extensive travel to customer facilities is required for this role.)

  • This is a remote position that involves an expected 75% travel time as needed to customer facilities all over the US. The other 25% of time working from home will be focused on report completion.
  • Travel expenses including flights, cars, lodging, per diem and other incidentals covered by ColonialWebb.
  • Reports directly to our Norfolk location. Will work closely with administrative staff members.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Provides detailed testing readings for customer reports per project scope and locations.
  • Safely accesses testing locations and notifies site management of any unsafe conditions.
  • Complies with all ColonialWebb safety, engineering and general standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides technical information needed to compile customer bid proposals.
  • Provides interpretation for external codes, regulations, and specifications.

EDUCATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • (Preferred, but not required) Associates or bachelor’s degree – Business Management, Engineering, Communications, or related concentration
  • Valid Driver’s License and meeting driving record requirements.
  • Must complete an aerial boom and scissor lift certification course and be able to safely work at heights. Safety training in applicable OSHA and ColonialWebb procedures will be provided and paid for.  These must be successfully completed as a job requirement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams or other online meeting tools.
  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills
  • Time management, budgeting, and organizational skills
  • High standards of customer service and work quality
  • Some mechanical aptitude is preferred. Basic refrigeration knowledge is a plus, but not required for consideration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will primarily be at customer facilities including processing, mechanical room and warehousing cold storage locations.  Both hot and cold work environments should be expected. Reporting work may be completed as part of weekly travel or scheduled for one’s home location.  Visits to the Richmond, Norfolk and Harrisonburg, VA offices may be required at times.  Team and project meetings will most likely be online.

  • Ability to work in both hot and cold internal and external locations for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use hand tools, measuring instruments and safety equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, work from roofs, platforms, and lifts.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Periodically required to lift/carry, push/pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
