General Superintendent 1
Classification: Exempt
Reports to: General Manager
Job purpose
The General Superintendent 1 is responsible for managing all field operations on their assigned projects. This includes: coordinating manpower, material, and equipment; all while ensuring the timely and profitable completion of each project. A General Superintendent 1 directly supervises the foremen & field labor. This position is responsible for multisite scheduling, inspections and quality control. This person must work closely with the appropriate project management team members and is an integral part of the project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with on-site staff and to promote positive project
Participate in continually improving and implementing OCP’s Lean
Train and support foreman to continually improve their lean production
Assist the foreman in the development of job-specific best practices and procedures.
Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring
Provide input on scheduling concerns throughout the
Responsible for ensuring the project is properly manned while effectively balancing a timely completion and maintaining the leanest
Maintain effective communication with the project managers and foremen throughout the construction
Walk job sites with customer’s superintendent on a regular basis to address any labor concerns.
Ensure the completion of any punch list to mitigate profit
Hold foreman training meetings regularly with relevant
Execute safety duties as outlined in “roles and responsibilities” in OCP’s safety program.
Consult with the Safety Director to ensure that all high-risk safety operations are safely planned and
Ensure that foremen are supplied with basic necessities in line with standard practices.
Attend GC/CM and internal kick-off meetings prepared to address any job site or scheduling
Visit job sites before they start to ensure the project is ready for OCP and that the foreman/crew have the protective gear, tools, equipment, scaffold etc. as
Ensure the foreman have a working knowledge of production information and use that information to manage field
Ensure timecards are received promptly and help payroll department with exceptions.
Ensure that the foremen are keeping the job site clean and organized.
Regularly visit job sites in order to increase accessibility to field employees.
Work with Human Resource Manager in recruitment efforts, talent management and succession planning.
Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Minimum of three to five years of commercial construction experience, thorough knowledge of trades and be computer literate.
Employees must be able to read blueprints, understand project cost analysis and effectively use the following computer programs within a reasonable amount of time.
Microsoft Office Suite
Plexxis or other construction management software
All employees are required to have an up to date CPR/AED certificate within 90 days of employment.
30-hour OSHA training
Must be able to travel to multiple job sites as assigned.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability of the eye to distinguish job site conditions and details.
This position must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and time management skills, as well as have strong oral and written communication and client service skills.
Working conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
