Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership (WRTP)/Building Industry Group Skilled Trade Employment Program (BIG STEP) is an Industry Led, Worker Centered and Community Focused nonprofit, with an annual budget of $5M, dedicated to family-supporting jobs. We are based in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, with offices in Madison and Racine. WRTP/BIG STEP is widely recognized as a national model and is industry recognized as a valuable workforce development tool.
As a workforce intermediary, we work with organized labor and employers in manufacturing and construction to keep businesses competitive, preserve family-supporting jobs, connect job seekers to those good jobs, help workers build skills to advance in their careers, and improve business productivity.
WRTP/BIG STEP is unique because we start with the jobs. We work directly with employers and unions to develop training programs that meet the specific and timely needs of the manufacturing, construction, and emerging sectors of the economy (e.g. healthcare). Additionally, we provide operational oversight of Triada, a WRTP/ BIG STEP subsidiary. WRTP/BIG STEP is a clearinghouse for the assessment, preparation, and placement of job-ready candidates. We also serve the community with apprenticeship preparation tutoring, and training and certificate courses. We serve as a finishing point before employment.
Summary:
The President/CEO shall be responsible for implementing the strategic plan to advance the organization's mission and objectives and to promote revenue, profitability, and growth of the organization. He/she oversees operations to ensure production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources. The President / CEO will also be accountable to and act under the direction of the Board of Directors, comprised of labor leaders and employers.
The President/CEO will be charged with fostering and stimulating collaboration and strategic partnerships at the local, statewide, and national level and with employers from the manufacturing, construction, and emerging sectors of the economy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizational Leadership:
- Oversee the development, planning, and delivery of programs and services
- Oversee the structure of operations to ensure production efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources
- Approve organization operational procedures, policies, and standards
- Hire, train, manage and evaluate senior staff
- Lead and evaluate senior staff performance for compliance with established policies and objectives and contributions to organizational goals and objectives
Board Relationship:
- Act as a resource to the Board of Directors so that policy decisions are made on an informed basis
- Provide timely Board updates of significant issues affection the development and delivery of program services
- Review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans following current conditions
Community:
- Promote the organization through written articles and personal appearances at conferences and various media
- Initiate and develop relationships with a broad range of community sectors including other non- profit organizations and business organizations, local Workforce Boards, Department of Labor, Department of Workforce Development, state, and local government officials
- Build a political and community network
Legislative:
- Represent the organization at legislative sessions, committee meetings, and formal functi
- Promote the organization to local, regional, national, and international constituencies
Fund Raising and Philanthropic:
- Build a fundraising network using personal contacts, direct mail, special events, and foundation support
- Build strong relationships with local/national foundations, philanthropic funders, and local organizations to help expand financial and programmatic goals
- Lead fund development strategies through philanthropic efforts and other engagements
Financial Management:
- Identify, cultivate, and monitor all funding sources from grants to philanthropic fundraising
- Monitor organizational Endowment Fund
- Oversight of annual fundraising events
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 + years executive or high-level managerial experience in workforce development, strategic planning, change management, and board operation
- A strong and charismatic leader, action-oriented, results-driven, and relationship-minded
- Minimum bachelor’s degree, or commensurate experience
- Direct experience working for a Board of Directors
KEY SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships, and engaging others to leverage resources and achieve goals which align to the mission and vision of the organization
- Ability to work with a diverse set of partners including organized labor, businesses, and community partners
- Experience working with federal and state job service training and programs such as DOL and DWD
- Demonstrated management level principles and practices needed to lead a complex organization, report to a Board, and manage budgets to meet organizational initiative/ strategies
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, with internal and external audiences
- Experienced in presenting and articulating to diverse audiences’ program materials and information
- Demonstrated success serving business clients, and experience in developing and implementing change initiatives
- Ability to travel locally, nationally, or internationally as the opportunity requires
