Job Description

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division is looking for a new member to join its team! As an Accounting Technician 2, you’ll serve as the day-to-day support for all financial and accounting matters within the Motor Vehicle Division. The Accounting Technician 2 will:

Ensure proper accounting practices, laws, and DOT procedures are being followed for financial transactions under the subject matter of the Motor Vehicle Division

• Reconcile, deposit, and report on Motor Vehicle Division financial transactions to DOT Finance, DOT Management, other State agencies, counties, and international organizations
• Oversee and ensure that all 99 County Treasurers and their 800 plus staff members are compliant with required and best accounting practices and procedures and laws related to DOT financial matters

Hours and Additional Information:
This position allows for flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The Team:
Our newest member will be joining the Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services Team of nearly 50 staff located in the Motor Vehicle Division Headquarters building in Ankeny. You will also work directly with internal work units, external businesses, associations, other agencies, county treasurer offices, and the Motor Vehicle Division’s Legal compliance officer to strategically meet approach policy matters affecting state and federal compliance.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and four years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal programs using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;

OR

the successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;

OR

substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post high school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;

OR

any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;

OR

one year of experience as an Accounting Technician 1 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying;

OR

one year of work experience as an Accounting Clerk 3 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying.
