Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for an Energy Resource Planner to join the team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position focuses on resource planning and power supply, is involved in and leads energy related forecasting projects, maintains databases, and analysis supporting a variety of topics, is responsible for providing information to consultants and works with other utilities, and supporting members upon request.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Power Supply:

  • Tracks monthly purchased power costs and updates estimated power supply costs for the remaining months of the year.
  • Develops purchased power cost and power supply for the annual operating budget and 20-year financial forecast.
  • Directly contributes to the power supply planning process, especially in the areas of fuel and plant costs, plant evaluation and forecasting endeavors.

Data & Analysis:

  • Performs economic analysis as needed.
  • Performs analysis to produce or compare demand, energy and fuel forecasts.
  • Supports fuel / plant analysis.
  • Supports data needs for projects within CIPCO.
  • Upon request, performs specialized data analyses internally as well as for member systems.

Reporting:

  • Prepares detailed, accurate and timely reports summarizing resource production and financial information including the annual Energy Supply and Resource Cost report.

Other:

  • Interfaces frequently with consultants.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics, Economics or other related discipline with 3 years previous work experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous electric utility experience preferred.
  • Is a self-starter with a high level of initiative
  • Is curious and looks for creative ways to solve problems and answer questions
  • Excellent analytical skills and strives for a high level of accuracy
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate in a team environment and work cross-functionally
  • Shares knowledge and skills with team members; willing to assist others
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
