Job Summary:
Back Filler is responsible for operating loader dozer, sheepfoot, backhoe compactor and other equipment to fill and compact trenches and is responsible for obtaining correct soil density.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs daily inspections and ensures that heavy equipment is in safe, proper working order including fluid checks and proper lubrication. Equipment includes but is not limited to: loader dozer, sheepfoot and backhoe compactor.
• Reports to shop when equipment needs maintenance and repair.
• Works closely with other crew members using hand signals to coordinate work and ensure safety.
• Backfills and compacts trenches observing safety rules, sometimes with workers in the trench.
• Must backfill and compact around utility lines with precision to avoid damage to lines and ensure safety of personnel in trench.
• Deliver materials to job site locations.
• Keeping equipment clean and preparing equipment for transport on flatbed when needed.
• Maintain orderliness, cleanliness and safety at jobsite.
• Follow Supervisor’s instructions closely.

Skills and Abilities:

• Understand and adhere to trench safety regulations.
• Understand the Personal Protection Equipment requirements.

Qualifications
Asbestos Certification
Pipelayer Certification
Confined Space Certification
Competent Person Certification

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions.
Travel is required.
