JOB DESCRIPTION

The operator operates a variety of equipment and trucks used in the construction of all types of projects.  The position may assist other craft workers.

  1. Operates trucks of various sizes and weights by moving levers, pushing pedals or turning valves, in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
  2. Operates trucks and construction or power equipment such as a backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, fork lift, loader, excavator, crane and skid steer.
  3. Works with and assists the crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment and any related work with a backhoe, forklift, crane or loader by using hand or audio signals.
  4. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  5. Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in construction projects.
  6. Performs manual work in preparing areas for construction.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position occasionally lifts heavy objects, walks, sits and stands for long periods of time and performs physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects and uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimbed coordination. The position requires the ability to  move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is exposed to wet, cold, heat, quickly changing conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat.
