The Role
The Supervisor Concrete Plant Production manages the day-to-day operations of a ready mixed facility and its respective staff. The incumbent will monitor daily production, quality control, maintenance, safety, and personnel associated with the facility. This role supervises direct reports’ work assignments and the performance management appraisal process. This job requires the employee to be on call at all times to ensure issues are addressed in a rapid and error free manner. The individual must be available to work any schedule and have the ability to resolve any unscheduled maintenance issues. Early starts and late evenings are common, especially during peak season. The incumbent must practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned and directed by Manager Concrete Operations and Manager Concrete Production. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) may be required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety and Housekeeping
- Complies with all safety policies, procedures, established safe practices, and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety and Health.
- Trains, develops, and monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of his/her employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development, reminders, and disciplinary action, if necessary.
- Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedures Manual (SSPM) including, but not limited to, safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting and investigation, and employee observations.
- Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures, OSHA, and NCDOT guidelines.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.
Operational
- Ensures maximum plant productivity on a daily basis.
- Works closely with concrete dispatch to optimize truck and personnel utilization each day.
- Becomes proficient in the batching sequence and controls of the Alkon Spectrum Batching and Command Alkon’s Integra Dispatching system as well as any other required systems.
- Performs daily, weekly, and monthly site, plant, and equipment inspections.
- Anticipates, plans, and schedules regular plant maintenance, including but not limited to: plumbing repair, general mechanical repair, welding, electrical repair, and preventive maintenance.
- Troubleshoots and repairs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance problems.
- Monitors for environmental compliance, correcting and reporting all deficiencies as well as making recommendations to enhance environmental responsibility.
- Coordinates truck repairs with the appropriate personnel and equipment shop.
- Maintains and ensures Concrete Delivery Professionals’ compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations through daily oversight and inspection of Concrete Delivery Professional logs and vehicle inspection reports.
- Performs regular inspections of raw materials and finished product to include slump, air, and quality of product.
- Assists in quality control investigations as related to product deficiency.
- Coordinates with quality control personnel to ensure production of materials meets specifications.
- Actively participates in role budgeting, cost, production improvements, and increasing facility efficiencies.
- Prepares regular reports on plant production, maintenance, operation, and personnel.
- Collects data and generates reports as needed by management. Completes any incidental work to the above duties or those assigned by management.
Administrative
- Directly manages Concrete Delivery Professionals at assigned plant.
- Ensures adequate and accurate supply of raw materials with quarry operations, cement, fly ash and various other suppliers. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly physical measurement of storage silos, aggregate piles, bulk admixture tanks, and valued-added products such as fibers, dye, and expansion joints.
- Mentors and develops new Concrete Delivery Professionals to ensure they meet Sunrock’s expectations for Concrete Delivery Professionals’ safety, housekeeping, and efficiency.
- Leads hiring, training, team development, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations for respective employees. This includes writing and delivering periodic appraisals for direct reports as needed.
- Generates and communicates coherent performance development reviews, counseling reports, email and all other communication as required in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinates and communicates with all other company functions as needed to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of operation.
- Prepares regular reports on plant production, maintenance, operation, and personnel.
- Maintains NCDOT Field Technician and Batch Technician certifications.
- Assists in preparing the annual concrete plant maintenance operating plan for assigned location.
Required Experiences
Education and/or Experience
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with one (1) to three (3) years experience is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
- Class B CDL preferred, with air brake endorsement
- Ability to obtain NCDOT Field Technician certification
- Ability to obtain NCDOT Batch Technician certification
- Ability to obtain NC Weighmaster license
