We are seeking a motivated individual to help perform vegetation management services for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Edison (SCE).

Job Summary: 

The Technician will remove and prevent unwanted vegetation in and around utility facilities. Various controls will be used to keep hazardous and nuisance vegetation at a safe distance from utility sites year round.

Essential Job Functions:

• Cooperate with utility representative to establish best use of controls and equipment to clear and remove unwanted vegetation.  
• Drive mowing tractor with hand and foot controls and use weed whacker or brush cutter.  
• Use gas powered push mower and gas powered blower. 
• Rake debris and trash.  
• Load and unload equipment onto truck and trailer. 
• Service equipment to keep in clean, neat, and specified mechanical condition. 
• Apply herbicide and or pesticide to designated site or right-of-way following brush removal utilizing hose and spray nozzle from truck mounted spray equipment, which includes tank, pump, hose reel, 200 feet of hose, utilize a backpack sprayer to treat remote areas.  
• Mix herbicide in holding tank or assist spray crew Foreperson mixing herbicide and filling tank.  
• Drives a truck to specified areas that require treatment. 
• Safeguard personnel on site, crewmembers, and public from hazards around work area (utilize hand signals, cones, signs, etc).  
• Complete and provide supervision and administrative staff with accurate and timely reports.    
• Assume responsibility for the inspection and proper working conditions of tools, truck, and other work equipment.
• Test vehicles, equipment and tools on a regular basis to ensure operating safely and efficiently.  

Minimum Requirements: 

• Due to the inherent nature of the position and requirements to work with or around heavy and hazardous equipment employees must possess mental and physical endurance for extended periods of time.  
• Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather (rain, heat, sun, cold) and nature (irritating plants, insects, dust) while completing work assignments. 
• Must be able to wear necessary PPE as per task assigned.
• Must be able to walk on uneven or slippery surfaces while handling equipment or material.
• Must be able to safely drive a company vehicle. 
• Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions / information.
• Must have transportation to and from the show up location.
• Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day. 
• Must be able to operate and service equipment. 
• Must be able to lift, move and maneuver heavy weights up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis, but up to 10 pounds on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to work around loud noise from machines. 
• Must be able to carry backpack and hoses for several hours.
• Must have sufficient eye sight to judge distances and coordination to spray proper area.  
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and MVR.
