Position Overview:
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for multi-state payroll administration and will be based out of our New Hampton, IA location. This is a full time position, reports to the Payroll Manager and has no supervisory responsibility.
General Duties and Functions:
- Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules and projects
- Be aware of and familiar with the Company Handbook and abide by the employment policies and regulations
- Teach, coach and work with team in a constructive manner
- Consistently keep desk area clean and organized to promote professionalism and efficiency
- Actively participate in any recommended or mandatory trainings
- Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers and management
- Additional duties as assigned by management, as this job description is non-exhaustive
- Willingness to perform duties outside normal scope of work (i.e. work outside normal hours)
Essential Duties and Functions:
- Review and enter weekly timecards into payroll software
- Prepare and process weekly payrolls
- Process garnishments
- Review Job cost, equipment and hours
- Print and distribute earnings statements
- Calculate wages for federal jobs
- Update and maintain payroll files to reflect payroll changes
- Verify correct individual and state taxes
- Occupational and Worksite Reporting
- Assist Payroll Lead as needed with payroll tax filings
- Process unemployment claims and decisions
- Process Accounts Receivable employee benefit payments
- Communicate with employees and outside resources
- Coordinate with other depts. including Benefits, Accounts Payable, Human Resources, Accounting and Operations
- Cross-train with applicable positions
Position Requirements:
- Consent to authorization of a pre-employment background check
- Must be able to pass a drug test
- Two year degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
- Possess a solid understanding of multi-state payroll practices
- PC proficiency (specifically Microsoft applications) required
- Self-directed and motivated to exceed expectations
- Work with employees, managers and government agencies regarding issues and questions
- Maintain confidentiality
- Detail and deadline oriented
- Excel in both the technical and customer service aspects of payroll
- Strong time management, organizational and problem solving skills
- Possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
- Certified payroll experience
- Minimum three years of payroll experience
