Job Summary

The Yard Assistant reports to the Shop Manager, or designee, in keeping the equipment shop and yard in order, helping to load and unload equipment, cleanup of equipment as needed, running parts, and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keep the shop and yard in order, which includes: receiving equipment, notifying shop personnel of equipment arrivals and departures.
  • Help with loading and unloading of equipment.
  • Cleanup/washing of equipment prior to entering shop.
  • Keeping the shop and equipment yard clean and maintained (inside and out).
  • Running parts as needed to all locations.
  • Other duties assigned by the Shop Manager, or designee and Equipment Manager.
  • Equipment preparation such as preparing/constructing bridge forms as well as aiding mechanics and fabricators as time permits.
  • General building/facility maintenance.
  • Takes ownership of the wash bay and sustains all 5S standards.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn to operate equipment to allow for appropriate movement within the yard.
  • Detail orientated, showing ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to work with a variety of people.
  • Able to work independently while following Supervisor’s instructions.
  • General carpentry and maintenance experience preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record required.
  • CDL, Class A license, preferred, or able to acquire during first year of employment.
  • Self-motivated.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Regularly required to drive and negotiate various job sites, which can include climbing on/off equipment, ladders, etc.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outside, in all types of weather.
  • Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit.
  • Travel as required.
