Position Overview

The Senior Accounting Technician is responsible for bookkeeping, provides support as needed to accounts payable, billing and collections for Distech Controls and its subsidiaries and will occasionally be asked to process payroll and perform other tasks related to that position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent analytical skills, quick and precise execution and strong technical skills. 

Distech Controls is a dynamic company established in 1995; our sales have tripled over the last 5 years and we foresee strong growth in the coming years. For this reason, this position will most certainly evolve in the next few years.

 

Description of responsibilities 

  • Perform the entire accounting cycle (i.e., all activities related to preparing monthly financial statements, general ledger accounts analysis and monthly audit cases) within applicable deadlines

  • Perform bank reconciliations, verify and process accounts payable invoices, make payments and follow up with suppliers, file QST, GST and US tax returns and make payments, make end-of-month closing entries (prepaids, accrued expenses, different provisions, etc.) and ensure follow-up, monitor project expenses, analyze current projects/cost variances and validate information with managers

  • Through continuous monitoring of all project expenses, revenues, billing and cash flow, support project managers and directors in reviewing project budgets by supplying all relevant information

  • On an occasional basis, process US and Canadian payroll (gather, verify and process information with ADP, ensure follow-up and communications with the various stakeholders, prepare and verify pay slips, disbursements and direct deposits, prepare various documents such as T4 and RL-1 slips and terminations of employment, reconcile payroll with general ledger accounts – salaries payable, vacations payable, etc.)

  • As needed, support accounts payable, billing and collections

  • Perform any other task as requested by the Chief Accountant and/or the Director of Finance

     

Qualifications

Required:

  • College or university degree in accounting

  • At least ten (10) years of experience in a similar position (bookkeeping and complete accounting cycle including payroll processing)

  • Proficient with MS Excel (PivotTable, spreadsheets, advanced features)

  • Fluently bilingual (French and English), both spoken and written

 

Desired:

  • Experience with Syteline, Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics and Simply Accounting

  • Knowledge of ADP and Concur

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, a project-based environment and/or a SMB environment (versatility is key)
