About The Role:
The Benefits and FMLA Specialist will serve as the primary contact for all benefits activity including working with benefits broker, plan design, open enrollment, FMLA/STD, ACA reporting and employee wellness initiatives. This person will administer both union and non-union benefits as well as multiple plans.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Work directly with benefits broker to review plan designs, make recommendations to changes and propose upgrades to current benefit offerings.
- Facilitate open enrollment for entire workforce.
- Primary contact for FMLA and Short-Term Disability administration. Effectively interprets and processes all disability paperwork, including medical, personal, ADA and FMLA.
- Facilitate and ensure all ACA reporting is completed in a timely manner.
- Promote employee wellness initiatives (financial wellbeing, EAP, know your numbers, smoking cessation, OMADA).
- Explain benefits programs such as health, life, dental, vision, disability, retirement, and pension plans to employees and dependents.
- Verify, enter, and maintain benefit-related data in HRIS and third-party systems.
- Process Long Term Disability Claims and Death Insurance Claims as applicable.
- Process and maintain COBRA/Retiree benefits through third party.
- Process and maintain Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) through third party.
- Keep Summary Plan Descriptions current and accurate.
- Maintain Hour Bank reports for employee benefits.
- Process weekly and monthly benefit billings.
- Process and maintain monthly pensions.
- Respond to verifications of employment requests.
- Provide payroll backup to approximately 1,500 employees and 9 companies.
What We're Looking For:
- 6+ years of experience in benefits administration.
- 2+ years of experience in processing payroll.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
