Job Description

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) is looking for a new member to join its team! As an Accountant 3, you’ll serve as the team lead of MVD and coordinate financial aspects of the five systems used by MVD which fund the Road Use Tax Fund (RUTF). Job duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Assist Management in leading the MVD Accounting’s Accounting Clerks, Account Techs, and temporary employees in GAP accounting practices and auditing.
  • Lead MVD Accounting in meeting its responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of over 50% of the funds collected on behalf of the RUTF and serves as the required Audit Department as required by Iowa Code section 321.156.
  • Represent accounting and MVD’s financial interests in developing programs, projects, and procedures, and system changes for the Iowa Department of Transpiration.  The team lead should be able to speak to the impact of the change to MVD’s financial processing and staff.

Hours and Additional Information:
This position allows for flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
 
The Team: 
Our newest member will be joining the Systems and Administration Bureau of nearly 50 staff located in the Motor Vehicle Division Headquarters building in Ankeny. You will also work directly with internal work units, external businesses, associations, other agencies, county treasurer offices, and the Motor Vehicle Division’s Legal compliance officer to strategically meet approach policy matters affecting state and federal compliance. 

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with twelve semester hours in accounting course work and experience equal to thirty months of responsible full-time work in accounting, accounts examination or verification, budgeting or closely related fiscal work with a governmental agency, public accounting firm, or private industry;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for each year of the required education to a maximum of four years;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of graduate level course work in accounting, business administration or finance for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of sixty hours;

OR

Certified Public Accountants will qualify with eighteen months of the required experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to nine months of full-time work. as an Accountant 2.
