In this position, you will be an important part of the Product Platforms and Application Sales team. You will assist with many of their day-to-day activities, including:

  • Participating in design and contract reviews for customer orders/projects.
  • Analyzing customer product specifications to determine application design requirements.
  • Develop bills of material and layout/component drawings using Solidworks.
  • Determine part and assembly tolerances in accordance with standards.
  • Provide application and product technical support to customers, internal/external sales groups, and the engineering and manufacturing teams as needed.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • S. or B.S. in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology and 3-7 years of related product design experience.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2018 or newer and Solidworks required
  • Office 365 applications knowledge
  • Working knowledge of common manufacturing techniques, dimensioning, inspection, and tolerance are required
  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical system design is desired.

Summary 

The Mechanical Designer role shall support the Product Platforms and Engineering team completing design work using Solidworks and AutoCAD / Draftsight. The Designer role is responsible for the content and accuracy of drawing deliverables from the Engineering department.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include 

  • Completes electro-mechanical design work in Solidworks. 
  • Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) completing design and drafting work to create and revise parts and drawings. 
  • Determines part and assembly tolerances in accordance with current established standards. 
  • Determines inspection dimensions for key characteristics and quality assurance / control inspections. 
  • Makes final drawing, checking dimensions, materials to be used, the relation of one part to another, and the relation of various parts to whole structure or project on the drawing. 
  • Develops design proposals to meeting the needs of new application and sales request, solicits input as needed from Application Engineering and supporting Engineering roles. 
  • Measure distances to verify the accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts. 
  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings. 
  • Suggest manufacturing and assembly methods appropriate for product designs, solicits input as needed from Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering. 
  • Reviews and understands test request and reports to support ECO processing. 
  • Provides engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as required. 
  • Corrects any errors/omissions that occur in an expeditious manner and looks for ways to reduce/eliminate reoccurring errors. 
  • Performs on-site inspections and supports quoting activities. 
  • Understands and interprets regulatory codes such as UL, NEC and NFPA. 
  • Perform any other duties as required by the customer and assigned by management. Supports and upholds the Quality and EHS policy. Upholds the Core Values.  

 Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities 

  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities but is expected to provide guidance to the Designer I role. 

Qualified candidates will possess the following  

  • Associate degree (A.S.) in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology and three to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2018 or newer and SolidWorks are required. 
  • Working knowledge of common manufacturing techniques, dimensioning, inspection, and tolerancing are required. 
  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical system design is desirable.
