Manhattan Country Club is seeking an individual to work as the Assistant General Manager in Manhattan,KS.

Manhattan Country Club represents a private retreat for its members and their guests.  Manhattan Country Club currently has more than 350 members and continues to grow. This 104-year-old course plays relatively short and with tight, tree-lined fairways. Play begins with six consecutive par-4 holes. Practice facilities include driving range, putting green and 36,000 square-foot short game practice area. The Position:
The Assistant General Manager is responsible to Assist the General Manager in running the operations of the golf course, including weekly, monthly and annual reporting, budgeting, merchandising, and staff hiring/training. Oversees and manages the food and beverage department for the club in a profitable manner. The Assistant General Manager will work closely with the Regional Operations Manager to continue implementing initiatives and processes set forth by Landscapes Golf Management.

Job Functions:

  • Manages the budget for the food and beverage department. Ensures all administrative, record keeping and reporting requirements set by the club and the Company for food and beverage operations are timely and accurately met.
  • Hires, trains, manages and develops food and beverage department staff including assistant managers, chefs, bartenders, beverage cart attendants, kitchen and wait staff. Manages and schedules staff to ensure proper coverage for daily operations and events.
  • Complies with the terms of purchasing agreements and vendor contracts.
  • Maintains food and bar inventory and responsible for proper ordering to meet customer demands and budget expectations.
  • Assist in the marketing of the course including event planning for the course, works with members to secure agreements and coordinates activities associated with non-golf events. Supervises and manages large non-golf events.
  • Develops and implements standards and procedures associated with the food and beverage department to fully comply with health, alcohol, tobacco and fire regulations.
  • Ensures that food and beverage facilities and equipment are maintained and in proper repair.
  • Ensures that food and beverage employees are compliant with health code standards and following applicable liquor laws.  Responsible for making sure all employees are properly trained and licensed as required for their position.
  • May be required to serve members and guests during club functions in a manner that meets or exceeds the needs and service expectations of the members and guests.
  • May be required to direct the set-up and/or take down of course events and complete necessary reports for the event.
  • Manages the daily operations of the pool, coordinates use of the facility, oversight of swim team and private swim lessons. Reports on the operations to the General Manager.
  • Hires, trains and coaches the pool lifeguards.  Schedules staff and conducts mandatory trainings and meetings as necessary.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pool environment by directing the custodial duties in the pool bathhouse, concessions and general pool area.  Completes chemical analysis and application according to requirements and schedule.
  • Assist the General Manager in serving as the community liaison for the course.
  • Consistently ensures that the club is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.
  • Develops, maintains and disseminates a basic management philosophy to guide all course personnel toward optimal results, employee morale and member/guest satisfaction.
  • Manages all aspects of the club in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Monitors guest experience across all departments and takes appropriate action to ensure first- class member/guest experience. 
  • Implements all Company human resource and payroll guidelines and procedures.  Gathers, processes and submits payroll information for the food and beverage department timely and accurately. Maintains employee files and records.
  • Assists General Manager with administrative functions including daily accounting, member billing, human resources and payroll.  Submits all required information timely and accurately.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of company, member and guest information.
  • Attends and actively participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
  • Performs additional assignments per the direction of club or Company managers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The Club has identified the following personal traits they believe the next General Manager will need to possess to be successful.

  • Working knowledge in Food and Beverage operations specifically in financial controls, staff management and facilities and equipment management.
  • Ability to provide high level of customer service with attention to detail. Able to plan and coordinate events that provide quality experiences to members/guests.
  • Understanding of safe food handling procedures and process as well as responsible alcohol service. Able to direct and maintain a safe and secure environment and operation
  • Demonstrates a sense of ownership in the work and a commitment to the success of the club and the Company.
  • Effective communication skills orally and in writing.
  • Proficient with computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and POS systems.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in golf management, business management or related field preferred.
  • 1- 3 years previous management experience in food and beverage operations or related experience.
  • Certified Food Protection Manager (ServSafe Manager Certification)

Compensation:

The club has put together a compensation package that will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience level and well within national averages for similar clubs. The compensation package will be comprised of an annual salary of $65,000-$70,000 DOE plus bonus potential. In addition, the Assistant General Manager will participate in Landscapes Golf Management's benefit program, which will include medical, dental, vacation and 401K.
