Location:
This is a rotational camp role required at our client site in British Columbia.  The role is "Sequential", meaning there are 2 people in different positions, working on alternated schedules to cover for each other.  

Position Overview:

Manages construction activities and skilled, technical, and professional staff engaged in construction of process facilities buildings, roads, dams, water treatment plants, process facilities, power plants, maintenance and administrative buildings, and all other infrastructure. Responsibilities include active management of multiple contractors and subcontractors including planning, scheduling, reporting, health, safety, security, and environmental compliance, quality, community relations and meeting targets within budget and on time.

Key Result Areas for this position may include and are not limited to

  • Manages the site construction contractors
  • Ensures that work is always executed in a safe manner
  • Ensures that safety and business goals are met or exceeded
  • Ensures that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with environmental policies and plans
  • Ensures that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with community relations policies and plans
  • Assist with the preparation of Sourcing Strategies for major works packages as required
  • Prepares annual budgets with input and assistance from the Project Controls Department
  • Reviews and approves project construction schedules
  • Ensures timely submission of contractor progress and cost status reports to the Project Controls Department
  • Implement remedial recovery action as required
  • Ensures strict compliance with Change Management processes
  • Ensures timely delivery of project construction services to internal stakeholders
  • Coordinates construction contractor risk assessments with input and assistance internal stakeholders and the Construction Team
  • Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to organize the work of construction contractors and vendors
  • Works with Project Services to ensure that equipment and material deliveries are coordinated, correctly implemented and documented
  • Manage the issue of equipment and bulk materials to Contractor’s
  • Periodically reviews the Construction Management Execution Plan to ensure conformity with current requirements, and revise as required
  • Organizes and oversees the maintenance and safe, effective utilization of tools, equipment, supplies, and inventories
  • Trains, guides, and evaluates the performance of direct reports, making recommendations for improvement where required
  • Assists with the compilation of construction documentation for upcoming work packages
  • Identifies contractor performance issues and works with Project Controls and the Contracts Department and other internal stakeholders to resolve issues
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory and building code requirements including Federal, State, and Local
  • Ensures conformity with industry codes of practice and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or Technical Degree (Construction) and appropriate Trade qualifications
  • Drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance
  • Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive safety and performance excellence
  • Knowledge of construction and trade practices
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools used to track cost, time, and quality
  • Knowledge of management concepts and best practices
  • Strong and effective communication and engagement skills
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum 10 years of large-scale mining construction site management experience across all trades
  • Experience managing and coordinating employees and contractors
  • Experience managing and coordinating project logistics
  • Experience managing construction contracts and vendor services contracts
  • Experience working with teams and interacting with customers
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture
  • Experience with Building Information Management systems
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Environmental Compliance obligations
