Key Objective: This high-profile position will lead and drive the Company’s Quality Process, manage the Company’s Quality System, train employees to maintain company quality standards, assist in Company bid and value engineering processes, and inspect welds and fabricated parts to maintain compliance with relevant codes and customer requirements. This position requires a passion for quality. Knowledge of AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) standards strongly preferred. This position will also play a key role in supporting the company’s safety and lean manufacturing culture.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage the Quality System and ensure company compliance with such.

• Manage the AISC and CWB/A660 audit processes. • Review welding specs and/or requirements for each project and work with team to solve fabrication challenges.

• Assist in welding labor hour estimates for bids and track costs compared to estimates.

• Monitor the execution of welding work to ensure it complies with the applicable codes, standards, and specific job requirements.

• Assist in the selection of welders and train, develop, & mentor welding staff in safe and proper parts fabrication and in sound hand welding techniques.

• Monitor and assist with welding tests for all welding candidates. Manage qualification testing and recordkeeping for existing welders in accordance with CSA W47.1, W59-03 and AWS D1.1 standards.

• Ensure that requirements for all welds, welders and welding activities are correctly specified and carried out in accordance with the relevant codes, client specification and contract standards.

• Develop and document new welding/fabrication techniques, methods and procedures to enhance quality, safety and productivity.

• Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per job.

• Foster and support safety and the “5S” culture within the fabrication shop. Conduct plant safety meetings as scheduled.

• Ensure incoming materials are inspected per drawings and documentation is submitted to Purchasing as accepted/rejected.

• Ensure NCR's are submitted to Purchasing on non-conforming material, complete with pictures (when applicable) in an efficient process to avoid delays.

• Perform Vendor Audits and maintain an "approved vendor list.”

• Coordinate welding inspection with third-party/other Welding Inspectors as applicable.

• Support the ISO Certification process. • Other projects which may be assigned.

Education and Skills Required:

• A current American Welding Society (AWS) CWI certification. Sr. CWI preferred.

• Knowledge of AISC standards and 2 years’ experience working in an AISC certified fabrication facility strongly preferred.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel 

 • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and a minimum of 2 years CWI experience in structural steel fabrication/manufacturing environment; or High School Diploma and 5 years CWI experience in structural steel fabrication/manufacturing environment

• Expert knowledge of welding techniques, terminology, and requirements

• Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement program and procedures preferred

• Excellent documentation, organization, and written/verbal communication skills

• Must be analytical and detail oriented.

• Must be team-oriented and have strong people skills

• Strong influencing skills to build an effective “Quality Culture”
