Responsibilities:

  • Operate Ready Mix truck in a safe and efficient manner adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT)  rules and regulations.
  • Performs daily preventative maintenance, record and inspection on vehicles to include fueling, cleaning, tire/light inspection, checking and adding fluids as needed.
  • Changes flat tires as needed.
  • Uses water hoses to clean mixer between loads.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Assist maintenance with repairs as needed.
  • Visually inspect the consistency of concrete in mixer.
  • Communicates and directs coworkers verbally either directly, through two-way radio or hand signals.
  • Provides appropriate documentation on delivery tickets.
  • Ensures all delivery tickets are signed and returned.
  • Exercise good judgment regarding work site access, unloading and operation to and from work site.
  • Maintain good customer relations. Act in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Assists in training of co-workers as needed.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Rules and Regulations and assures facility compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Required to follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Specific tasks:

  • Climb an 8’ side ladder on the side of the truck to access the hopper for inspection and rinsing. Requires climbing up a distance of up to 20” to the first rung then 7 more rungs to the top of the truck (each 11” apart). Requires good balance and use of both hands and feet. Frequent  (up to 24 trips up and down the ladder per 15 hour work day)
  • Climb onto a 43” tire to access the engine for routine inspections. Requires reaching out 40” to check water and oil levels.    Occasional  (up to 12 times per 15 hour work day)
  • Climb in and out of cab using three-point contact. Requires climbing up a distance of 22” to the first of three rungs. Requires use of both hands and feet and sufficient gripping strength.      Frequent  (up to 70 times per 15 hour work day)
  • Sit and drive truck to and from work site. Requires ability to tolerate sitting for up to two hours at one time. Requires simultaneous use of both hands for steering/gear changing and simultaneous use of both feet for pedals.   Frequent (up to 12 hours per 15 hour work day)
  • Open hood of truck for inspection and preventative maintenance. Requires ability to generate above shoulder push/pull forces up to 100 lbs.   Requires 88” reach to access hood release.    Occasional
  • Lift a 51 lb. extension chute (dimensions up to 48” long and up to 21” wide) from side of truck (48” from the ground), carry it a distance of 18 feet and assemble it to the secured chute at the back of the truck (55” from ground). Requires 32” horizontal reach and ability to generate a push force of 36 pounds at shoulder level to secure straps when replacing the chute on the side of the truck. Occasional (up to 24 times per 15 hour work day)
  • Demonstrate the ability to manipulate the 51 lb. extension chute at shoulder level, turning it 180° to position it properly on secured chute. Occasional     
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and change flat tires (up to 43” in diameter). Requires ability to lift and operate a 37 lb. impact wrench to remove 10 lug nuts then manipulate and remove the tire. Requires ability to generate a force of 76 lbs. to pull the tire off the wheel using a tire tool.   Rare
  • Walk to perform pre-trip inspections, extension chute transfers, access materials and around work site. May have to walk on uneven, and potential slippery surfaces.    Frequent      (up to 3960 ft. per 15 hour work day)
  • Use hand signaling and two-way radio to communicate with co-workers. Frequent
  • Alternate from crouching, squatting, and kneeling to inspect, assemble or repair equipment for up to 5 minutes at a time. Occasional
  • Visually monitor control panels and warning lights. Visually inspect breaks/tires and other parts of the truck for defects. Requires normal (correctable) vision, normal depth perception, and ability to distinguish color. Frequent

Requirements:

  • Possess a Class B Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL), or better. One-year experience operating diesel tandem trucks and/or Ready Mix truck driving experience preferred
  • Possess a safe driving record
  • Maintain an active DOT qualification
  • Read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to perform well in a “TEAM” environment
  • Self-motivator   

           This job description reflects several of the general duties and essential physical functions of the Ready Mix Driver. It is not a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

           Outdoors 90%           (Inside of cab approximately 50% of time)                        Indoors 10%

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects.
  • Demonstrate neck range of motion within normal limits (flexion and extension 60°, lateral flexion 40° and rotation 70°)
  • Lift objects of various dimensions and weights.
  • Ability to operate hand controls with both hands.
  • Ability to operate foot pedals with both feet.
  • Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
  • Ability to use vibration tools.
  • Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather.
  • Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels.
  • Ability to tolerate working at heights up to 9 feet.
