Job Summary:

The Dispatch Associate assists in directing and coordinating activities of the TGU driving staff and contractors. The Dispatch Associate is responsible for assisting the Sales Team with routing outgoing orders according to customer requests, as well as establishing a schedule to ensure all deliveries are handled in a professional and expeditious manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with appropriate teams to ensure that all orders satisfy Sales Department submission requirements
  • Review delivery tickets and direct to the correct route based on the destination, shipment size and customer time requirements, as well as other customer needs for each delivery address
  • Control driver, truck and route productivity by ensuring that each truck carries a full load
  • Schedule loads to minimize the use of third party drivers
  • Select specific trucks for each route based on volume and equipment availability
  • Maintain a daily dispatch log containing all critical details of the delivery
  • Properly dispatch orders for correct arrival time and location
  • Respond to problematic situations that may occur with drivers or customers
  • Create Sales Orders for sales staff who request deliveries
  • Investigate customer complaints regarding lost or damaged merchandise, or shortages in shipment, in order to determine responsibility
  • Analyze and prioritize information, make decisions, and solve problems effectively
  • Process paperwork when new third party drivers join the approved group of drivers, which includes asking for a valid CDL DL and Insurance Certificate; and having the driver complete a W9
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs 

 Essential Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years dispatching experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and knowledge of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication in all unit measures)
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Houston and the surrounding area

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Wholesale experience in a garden center, nursery, or farming
  • Experience or education in horticulture, agriculture or related field

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
