Summary
The New Ulm Conference Center is seeking an experienced Banquet Manager with the ability to deliver exceptional guest service and actively promote a the New Ulm Conference Center. The role of the Banquet Manager is essential to the success of the property. That success depends upon their ability to deliver exception guest service, collaborate with Catering Sales and Food and Beverage Team, assist in the planning of events for clients and lead the Banquet team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- In collaboration with Catering Sales and Food and Beverage teams, assist in the planning of events for clients which could include the design of the facility/room/venue layout and appearance, types of seating, entertainment and decorations, determine all event needs such as podiums, dance floors or audio/visual equipment ·
- Be available to clients at all times prior to, during or after an event, out on the floor and easily visible able to alleviate questions/concerns and provide excellent client service
- Participate as needed in meetings with the Banquet Chef and/or Executive Chef to review menu requests
- Understand and be able to communicate catering menu details and pricing.
- Lead a team in providing exceptional guest services in preparation, during and following events
- Interview, select, schedule, train, coach, counsel and evaluate the performance of the Banquet team.
- Supervise and assist with the setup of function rooms according to event order specifications. Visually inspect function rooms and equipment prior to functions for cleanliness and accurate setup
- Review, maintain and stay up to date with upcoming events, communicating regularly with Catering Sales, share contracts, Banquet Event Order, and kitchen details with Catering team to ensure they have all necessary information to guarantee a successful event and ensure billing is complete and processed in a timely manner.
- Order linens and necessary supplies for service for all events. Keep in contact with all vendors. Ensure audio/visual equipment is up to date, in working order and available when needed.
- Supervise staging of meeting space, food service banquets and special events including appropriate equipment, to meet client and contractual expectations per the Banquet Event Order, assist Banquet Captains to ensure proper pull sheets and that the staging of venues for events are completed properly
- Oversee clearing and cleaning of all venues; returning, cleaning and restocking of equipment
- Graciously and quickly manage any employee or client issues; report issues to Restaurant General Manager or the Property General Manager.
- In collaboration with the Director of Food and Beverage and venue supervisor(s), develop and manage staffing plan for all Catering and Meeting Room teams and create weekly team schedules
- Thoughtfully and consistently engage in employee management procedures for interviewing, hiring, performance, discipline and termination
- Engage and/or take a lead in regular, consistent meetings with employees, from one-to-one check-ins to daily huddles, team and department meetings.
- Oversee and implement employee training and development adhering to Fort Worden and Food and Beverage objectives, obtaining employee satisfaction standards and high quality guest experience
- Ensure cleanliness of the event by maintaining to specified standards, passing Health Department audits and training staff on proper sanitation and safety guidelines
- Responsible for employees adhering to accurate cash handling, banks and tills, ensure proper accounting and reconciliation of the Point of Sales systems and revenues.
- Maintain the small-wares and event equipment inventory to give timely feedback on loss and reordering needs, manage physical inventory verification and provide updated information to the accounting department
- Attend staff and management meetings as needed
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other management
Experience, Skills, and Education
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong service skills to include problem-solving and complaint resolution
- Self-starter with high degree of initiative
- Strong business communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
- 3 years proven convention and restaurant operation experience, demonstrating proven creative thinking and results driven leadership skills
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Suite
- May be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the property
- Ability to participate in, and at times lead departmental and/or property team meetings
- Experience in food & beverage sales
- Selfless, team-oriented, and always eager to improve
- Working knowledge of IT and computer systems
- Able to motivate and train team to provide a world-class guest experience
