Summary

Reporting to the SBU FD / VP of Finance, the Controller has responsibilities that includes oversight of all financial services for the Mid Atlantic Construction business.  This role is responsible for accounting in accordance with GAAP and IFRS as well as oversees financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting.  This role is considered a valuable partner and adviser to the division president.

 

Essential Functions

Financial/Accounting Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the division’s fiscal function.
  • Manages and performs accounting in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.
  • Manages division accounts payable and accounts receivable to gain optimum working capital.
  • Participates in the development of the division strategic initiatives, budget, and long-range planning.
  • Develops credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends in order to assist the division president and other senior executives in performing their role and responsibilities.
  • Enhances, recommends and/or develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures of the company that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company. 
  • Provides strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the division.
  • Evaluates project risks based upon financial metrics on a monthly basis through the Monthly Project Review process as well as quarterly during the deep dive process.
  • Serves as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the division may enter.
  • Ensures compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to protect the assets and integrity of the company.  Including balance sheet account reconciliations in Blackline.
  • Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, and developing employees.
  • Liaises with the US tax department and internal audit as required.

Working Conditions

  • The majority of work is completed in an office setting.
  • Periodic travel to jobsites and regional offices is required.

Education, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred and 8+ years of experience, preferably in the construction industry.  CPA experience is preferred. 
  • Extensive knowledge/experience in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.  IFRS experience is preferred.
  • Supervises and develops direct reports while prioritizing and delegating to others.
  • Demonstrates solid presentation skills and verbal/written skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize people, tools and equipment to orchestrate multiple activities at once.
  • Experience in JD Edwards as well as PBCS a plus.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook, Teams).
