POSITION SUMMARY

The Estimator will collect and analyze information to estimate costs of services for assigned demolition/abatement projects.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Commercial site protection and preparation, abatement, and demolition services estimation.
  • Produce estimates of costs and pricing for site protection, site preparation, and removal/disposal of all designated materials and substances as required by GC’s, Contractors, and Owners.
  • Estimate costs of supplies, materials, equipment, labor, as well as costs of subcontracting for cutting, coring, etc. in light of drawings and specifications.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to familiarize self with jobsite conditions, as necessary.
  • Review and evaluate project specifications to determine proper materials, applications, and scope of work.
  • Initiate appropriate correspondence with customer to clarify vague or ambiguous statements or specifications, prior to finalizing your take-off.
  • Performs take-offs of areas / quantities to apply labor productivity and quantify waste disposal or fill requirements.
  • Solicit material / disposal and subcontract pricing from vendors to incorporate onto the bid
  • Summarize take-off and note job conditions that may affect labor productivity.
  • Review all the above information with the President / Vice President, as may be appropriate, to determine execution and pricing strategies.
  • Formulate final pricing and submit for final review between the President and Vice President as may be required. Participate in this review if requested to answer questions.  
  • Complete and submit bids for demolition and abatement projects.
  • Assist in the timely submission of all proposals.
  • Be the main point of contact for all bid correspondence.
  • Develop a list of quotation exceptions and clarifications.
  • Ensure that material, labor, taxes, and insurance information is kept current.
  • Analyze changes to services provided.
  • Provides detailed reports that will include breakdowns of project costs and forecasts of remaining costs.
  • Coordinate projects in liaison with Project Manager and help understand and prepare project phases and schedules.
  • Prepare job costing forecasts and cost statements for individual projects.
  • Liaise and consult as required with parties involved with demolition / abatement scope of projects: engineers, owners, clients, contractors, subcontractors, anticipate potential change orders and cost adjustments.
  • Documents data and statistical procedures used in conducting cost analysis.
  • Exhibit a spirit of cooperation and teamwork with all of the members of the organization, ensuring that all communication is handled promptly, thoroughly and with courtesy.
  • Assist the Project Manager developing job labor studies.
  • Maintain lists of contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficient with accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Educational background in Construction, Construction Management, or Construction Project Management.
  • Previous experience working in construction, demolition, or abatement – in some capacity.
  • Ability to understand architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of project forecasting, scheduling, planning, and asset.
  • Must have reliable access to a vehicle, as this job requires occasional travel to job sites.
  • Strong organization, time-management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be proactive, work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong and professional communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative and own responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
