Ayres Associates is looking for the next innovative planner to join our team to assist with a growing workload centered on providing innovative solutions to clients not only on the Front Range, but across the West, and nationwide. We need someone who has a vigorous passion for community development, public outreach, and can listen effectively to help identify and implement solutions for our broad spectrum of planning services. The preferred candidate should be a self-starter, who can bring or is able to effectively create a business development network to reach a growing and diverse client base.
The successful candidate will have management ability and technical production expertise to lead complex projects with minimal oversight from initial pursuit to project closeout. He or she will travel to new markets to generate business and conduct project work proactively managing and collaborating with other team members.
On any given day, you will:
- Develop a professional network to enhance business development opportunities on a regional scale.
- Evaluate project opportunities and leading team efforts to respond to requests for proposals.
- Compile, research, analyze and evaluate data related to social, housing, economic, population, environmental, land use trends, prepare reports and presentations associated with the above items as well as perform plan reviews and preparation of permits.
- Develop planning studies and reports.
- Research and analyze residential and commercial development projects.
- Collect a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, tax base data, and occupancy rates.
- Review and prepare environmental assessments, plans and documents.
- Conduct field evaluations and assessments.
- Attend evening meetings and assisting with public hearings.
Required Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field and 4-8 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of comprehensive planning and community engagement and strong skills related to principles and practices of urban planning, zoning and land use required.
- Funding research and grant writing skills desirable, as is knowledge of brownfield revitalization, urban transportation, public engagement and urban redevelopment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet applications, Prezi, and GIS desired.
- Ability to create graphic designs, development strategies, and render site plans via sketches and/or computer graphics highly desirable.
- A multi-tasker with impeccable communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, experience with municipal and urban planning, and a flexible approach to delivering results.
- Business development skills will be necessary for success in this position.
- Must be able to work effectively in both an independent as well as a collaborative team environment.
- Knowledge of local government organization, operations, policies, procedures and proficiency with municipal and state laws governing and land use and municipal codes and ordinances required.
Desired skills and experiences:
- Experience in both the public and private sector, with management responsibilities a plus.
- A self-starter, confident in their professional capabilities, and capacity to work with limited direction is desirable.
- Experience with zoning/development code interpretation, enforcement, site plan reviews, redevelopment efforts, comprehensive plans, downtown development and drafting is desired.
- Previous experience participating in interviews and development of proposals, budgets, and project timelines is a plus.
