Summary: 

  • This is an entry level position that will be assigned to work in the field and visit multiple projects sites under the direction and supervision of an experienced safety professional. Frequent travel will be required. Employees may be moved to single projects when needed.
  • This position performs varied field safety duties in support of the area EH&S Manager to include field observations/coaching, onboarding/training, and working with the Power Team to plan for upcoming work.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction and shop work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, client, local, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.
  • Identify, document and recommend resolution of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections have been made.
  • Prepares supporting documentation of all safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures, and maintaining safety equipment supply and availability.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Coordinates with area EH&S Manager to identify areas of significant interest and establish inspection frequency.
  • Prepares documents and reports utilizing company established field safety inspection reporting formats and programs. 
  • Coordinate with area EH&S Manager to ensure adequate safety supplies are maintained and purchased for all areas as needed.
  • Assist in investigations of personal injury and property damage accidents.
  • Compile data, photographs, etc.; prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents.
  • Issue various permits (i.e., to confined spaces) as required.
  • Assist in conducting employee/craft and insurance walk through tours. May accompany federal, state, local and insurance inspectors on walk through tours.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and employee training
  • Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and identify all requirements that apply or may apply.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in all kinds of weather and walk and stand for long periods.
  • Must have strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively including plan, coordinate, organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to use good judgment to make decisions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum two years of relevant construction safety experience working around heavy equipment
  • Utility Right of Way experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health is required.
  • GSP or CHST designation from Board of Certified Safety Professionals is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Safety Considerations:

Typically works 8-12 hours per day,5-6 days per week in extreme hot and cold environments after acclimatization. Wears all required personal protective equipment on daily basis. May be exposed to snakes, insects and similar with PPE and protective clothing/creams provided to minimize exposure. May be required to work on variable terrain in performance of duties. Required to operate motor vehicle. Routinely lifts/carries up to 50 pounds unassisted.

  • Uses field test equipment that requires manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • May be required to enter confined and/or enclosed spaces where respiratory protective equipment is required.
  • May be required to enter trenches and/or excavations.
  • Climbing required on non-routine basis.
  • May be required to drive for long distances and over extended periods.
  • May be required to work at night.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials on a routine basis during performance of duties. PPE and protective clothing provided to minimize exposure.
  • Works in all types of field environments where walking may be strenuous.
