As a Safety Manager, you will oversee a comprehensive and proactive quality assurance program by implementing and enforcing policies designed to ensure the health and safety of employees and the public. The Safety Manager represents and protects the interests of Wagner Construction by applying professional construction safety management expertise and techniques.

Ability to travel is required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, assesses, and report on construction contractor safety programs and sanitary conditions at project sites to ensure OBO safety and health requirements are being properly implemented.
  • Provides advice and direction to project manager and engineer at project sites to ensure continuity throughout the project cycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards by local, state and federal agencies through the development of on-site assessments and monitoring programs.
  • Perform and coordinate company and federally regulated drug testing.
  • Provide employees with the knowledge and resources necessary for health and safety awareness by coordinating continued educational classes.
  • Complete new hire orientation, drug testing and arrange post offer pre-work screens.
  • Perform investigations of safety incidents to assist with the development of employee injury prevention programs; monitor program effectiveness and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations, procedures, formulating policy, and implementing safety procedures.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, community relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop, implement and enforce safety protocols through proper documentation.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements Manual EM385-1-1 and ensure effective on-site implementation of contractor Construction Accident Prevention Plans (CAPP), which are required by the U.S. Department of State.
  • Skill in performing on site health and safety inspections by ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA and DOT standards.
  • Current knowledge of EEOC standards.
  • Operation of windows bases computers and related company equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment & meet deadlines.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to numerous facilities.

Job Qualifications:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen.
  • At a minimum have a (2) year Associate Arts Degree or an Associate Technical Degree.
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent writing skills and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • At least 5 years experience in commercial building construction as a concrete or general field superintendent with demonstrated construction safety experience.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of all sections relevant to OBO construction operations in the latest edition - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements Manual EM385-1-1. 
  • Completion of standard OSHA 30 hour construction safety course within the last 5 years. 
  • Possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certificate or equivalent certified safety training.
  • Must be able to anticipate, identify, and evaluate potential safety and health hazards and dangerous environmental exposures.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a number of diverse locations is pertinent, as work locations may change daily.
  • Expected Hours: Hours will vary by job, location and season. Working a night shift may be required. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Works both indoors and outdoors.
  • Frequently performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching and handling of materials, equipment and tools.
  • Works around vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
  • Exposed to exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
  • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to loud noise.

Depending on applicants qualifications we will also train.
