Job Summary: The Operations Engineer assists with the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Team by performing the following duties:
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development of switching orders and maintaining switching records.
- Responsible for analyzing and approving switching orders as it pertains to safety, load management, and protection of substation and distribution equipment.
- Run Time Current Curve (TCC) analysis software and assist the System Engineers in maintaining a properly coordinated distribution system protection scheme. Also responsible for ensuring protective devices are correctly defined in the model and integrated with the TCC software.
- Responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, arranging repair of, and programming power quality monitoring devices. Downloads and assists in the analysis of power quality data. Contacts consumers to discuss results of power quality investigations. Works with the System Engineers and other Association employees to resolve power quality problems.
- Responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, arranging repair of, and operating phase tracing equipment to identify phases and for marking phasing in the field. Provides support for Operations personnel using phase tracing equipment.
- Operate and monitor the load control system, producing reports summarizing the monthly and annual effectiveness of the load shedding program, and providing load data for selected accounts.
- Work with the Engineering Analysis vendor and other vendors to resolve problems with the Engineering Analysis software and with interfaces between it and other systems.
- Provide support for the System Engineers and consultants in gathering and analyzing data for Construction Work Plans, Long Range Engineering Plans, and other engineering studies.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably with an emphasis in power systems) or a related field. Related experience in the engineering or operations department of an electric utility in addition to the degree is preferred.
- Five years engineering or operations experience at an electric utility including the use of computers and technical software.
- Proficient in the use of electric power distribution engineering analysis and time current curve (TCC) analysis software. Familiar with the use of database (preferably Access) software and proficient in the use of spreadsheet (preferably Excel) software.
- Ability to use a scientific calculator to solve mathematical problems involving algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Understands basic electrical theory and the principles of electric utility substation and power distribution system planning, design, construction, analysis and operation.
- Proficient in setting up and programming microprocessor based power quality monitoring devices and test equipment.
- Proficient in the analysis of power quality data and able to effectively communicate technical information to other employees and consumers.
- Organized, detail oriented, well organized, able to exercise discretion and use sound judgment in dealing with people and confidential information.
- Ability to react to change productively and to handle a high workload.
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
The pay range for this position is between $110,000 and $130,000 per year.
