Summary:

This position requires a Certified MSHA Instructor who will work in the field and visit multiple project sites, with frequent travel required. Employees may be assigned to a single project as needed. The primary responsibilities include performing safety inspections, coaching, training, and collaborating with the Power Team to plan for upcoming work. The ideal candidate will have a Board of Certified Safety Professionals certification, such as CHST or higher, and a MIN number.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction and shop work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, client, local, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.
  • Identify, document and recommend resolution of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections have been made.
  • Prepare supporting documentation of all safety inspections, citing dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures, and maintain safety equipment supply and availability.
  • Coordinate with field supervision to identify areas of significant interest and establish inspection frequency.
  • Prepare documents and reports utilizing company established field safety inspection reporting formats and programs.
  • Coordinate with field supervision to ensure adequate safety supplies are maintained and purchased for all areas as needed.
  • Assist in investigations of personal injury and property damage accidents.
  • Compile data, photographs, etc.; prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents.
  • Issue various permits (i.e., to confined spaces) as required.
  • Assist in conducting employee/craft and insurance walk-through tours. May accompany federal, state, local and insurance inspectors on walk-through tours.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and employee training.
  • Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and identify all requirements that apply or may apply.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in all kinds of weather and walk and stand for long periods.
  • Must have strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively including plan, coordinate, organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to use good judgment to make decisions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
  • Must be a Certified MSHA Instructor.

Education and Credentials: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in safety related field
  • 5 years of safety experience in construction industry and
  • ASP or GSP certification and
  • CHST certification

OR if No Degree

  • 10 years of safety experience in construction industry and
  • OSHA 500 
  • CHST certification

Compensation:

  • Salary will be based on a combination of experience, education, and credentials.
  • Per diem or travel expenses will be provided.
  • Company truck for company use will be provided.
  • 401K, medical, dental, vision, supplemental benefits included.

Safety Considerations:

  • Typically works 8-12 hours per day, 5-6 days per week in extreme hot and cold environments after acclimatization.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment on a daily basis.
  • May be required to work on variable terrain in the performance of duties.
  • Required to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Routinely lifts/carries up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Uses field test equipment that requires manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • May be required to enter confined and/or enclosed spaces where respiratory protective equipment is required.
