Description of Position – The Parts Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the parts department which include identifying, locating, and obtaining parts in order to meet customer’s needs. This role makes process improvement recommendations with respect to the best interest of the parts department.
Organizational Relationships – The Parts Manager reports to the corresponding Branch Manager. Normal inside contacts will include all employees of TEC front office, shop, and field. Outside contacts will include existing clients, customers, and other related industry contacts.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains inventory control; researches and order parts for customers
- Displays a positive attitude toward work, be a team player, have the ability to juggle competing priorities and provide top-notch customer service
- Assists with all parts department functions as needed, including assisting customers or technicians with acquiring parts, answering department phone calls, shipping, and receiving
- Prepares staff work schedules to ensure the department is staffed at all times
- Monitors inventory levels of parts on hand and adjusts items and quantities stocked as demand changes
- Reviews automatically generated parts orders and orders parts
- Returns parts to manufacturers
- Investigates and resolves discrepancies in parts inventory
- Looks up pricing and availability of parts requested by other departments
- Picks up and delivers parts for customers and vendors as needed
- Maintains a clean and safe operating department
- Perform repairs, diagnostics, inspections, and overall maintenance of the company’s equipment inventory
Requirements of the Position
- Education and Certification – High school diploma or equivalent; one-year certificate from a college or technical school is preferred.
- Recommended Work Experiences – Minimum of 2 years of experience within a Parts or Service Department; Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record; Knowledge of heavy equipment, specifically excavators, forklifts, and compactors.
- Physical Demands – Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching (with arms and hands), handling, talking, hearing, depth perception, lifting, vision (close, peripheral, depth, ability to adjust focus), and lifting/moving up to 35+ pounds.
- Working Conditions – Considerable local and non-local travel may be required; Work with a group and/or team; Frequent conflict situations may be present; Work after normal business hours; Potential hazardous work; Frequent exposure to extreme outside weather conditions and high levels of noise.
