Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets and directs visitors to appropriate department or person.
  • Handles all incoming calls and assists caller or directs call to appropriate person.
  • Handles calls transferred from field offices during lunch.
  • Processes mail and drop box and credit card payments.
  • Assists customers with billing questions or complaints; including investigations and follow-up.
  • Negotiates and assists customers with scheduling payment arrangements.
  • Posts payments to accounts and processes checks for payment.
  • Balances drawer and daily cash receipts.
  • Processes service orders for new service, final bills, and to verify high billings.
  • Assists customers with new account information – customer contracts, deposits, connections, etc.
  • Maintains office billing and payment records.
  • Runs credit checks.
  • Calculates deposits.
  • Maintains and continually updates customer data files ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Records customer service and complaint orders and dispatches electric, water or wastewater personnel.
  • Processes disconnects and reconnects.
  • Provides exceptional customer service.

 

Qualifications

  • A high school education or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years related work experience is required.
  • General accounting education desired.
  • Strong word processing and spreadsheet skills and the ability to use a variety of office equipment such as calculators, copiers, typewriter, facsimile machine, personal computer, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization.
  • Able to remain calm and deal tactfully with employees and customers.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, etc.
