Research Assistant - Part-Time - Dr. Drake

The Institute for Medical Research (IMR), an affiliate of the Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS), has an opening for a part-time Research Assistant (RA). The RA will perform a variety of duties to assist investigators in both quantitative and qualitative research projects related to population health, implementation science, and specifically, supporting an active evaluation of a prescription produce program offered to patients with diabetes.
Previous experience in these specific fields or applications is not required or necessary; however, candidates should be enthusiastic about exploring implementation of population health management strategies to address food insecurity among patients at heightened cardiometabolic risk.
Location: This is a hybrid position located in Durham, North Carolina and candidates must be willing to relocate prior to start date.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of routine clerical, research, regulatory, and data processing duties. 40%
- Visualize data abstracted from the electronic health record and calculate descriptive statistics in tables, charts, and graphs for presentations and manuscript development. 30%
- Assist with disseminating research products (i.e., manuscripts and presentations) and preparing proposals for additional external funding. 20%
- Maintain project-specific training requirements and communicate with other project personnel required for implementation and problem solving. 10%
Qualifications:
Work requires one year of research or data analysis experience that can be obtained through a bachelor’s program or graduate studies. Experience with basic statistical coding (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, Stata, Python), data processing, and Microsoft Excel would be beneficial. Experience with the RedCAP application is preferred.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements and activities that are required to perform the essential functions of the position include, but may not be limited to, as follows: Must be able to occasionally lift, pull and push a minimum of 10 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, sit for extended periods of time, squat, kneel, and stoop, and regularly use fingers and hands for computer work.
Supervisory Controls: The position of Research Assistant will report directly to The PI.

Status: Non-Exempt
Start Date: Expected start date will be 4- 6 weeks after the offer but is somewhat flexible and contingent upon completion and approval of VA paperwork. Training and on-boarding will start in May 2023.
All IMR employees are required to obtain a Workers Without Compensation (WOC) appointment at the Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS). As a result, the successful candidate must undergo a federal background check and may be subject to a physical and drug test. Participation in the vaccination programs may be required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Workers Without Compensation (WOC) appointments.
