SR Accountant/Project Controller

Mears Group is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Accountant with proven leadership skills who will play an integral role in the financial management of a large construction project. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with Operations and Accounting to ensure proper consideration and execution of job setup based on the contract terms, billing, and internal reporting and performance management requirements.
  • Ensures completeness of cost, billing, and contract value modifications through interaction with transaction processing teams and project teams.
  • Serves as accounting liaison to project operations, when necessary; and provides deep functional knowledge of project objectives, risks, strategies, and performance expectations.
  • Assists Accounting to ensure the completeness and accuracy of monthly project forecasts.
  • Experience managing, controlling, and distributing all project documentation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain construction management system, including setting up projects (jobs), budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.
  • Coordinate/interface with cost accounting system software provider.
  • Timely, Accurate Reconciliation & Closing of Month End/Year End of Accounting Modules
  • A/R Billing & Reconciliations, Cash Management
  • Prepare & Analyze Work-In-Progress Reports & Job Cost Analysis Reports
  • Meet with Senior & Project Management to Review Job Status & Performance Against Budget
  • Analyze Actual vs. Expected Results, Identifying the Cause of s Variance or Trend
  • Preparation & Coordination of External Audits & Reviews

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA or CMA Preferred
  • 5+ Years of Hands-On Accounting Experience
  • Background in Construction Accounting & Experience with Construction Accounting Software
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent Analytical & Organizational Skills
  • Excellent Written, Verbal Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Advanced Proficiency in MS Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret relevant corporate policies management agreements, customer service contracts, and general contracts for terms.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, lien releases, and other pertinent construction documents.
  • Project accounting/ project controls experience with multi-year design and construction projects, specifically within the EPC space > $100M
  • Spectrum experience is a plus.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
