Scaffold Builder Job Description

Job Summary

The Scaffold Builder position requires the ability to erect, inspect, repair, dismantle, maintain, and identify scaffolds for construction services. This role demands consistent adherence to safety protocols and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in often challenging environments.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures (above 110°F or below 20°F).
    • Work in adverse weather and environmental conditions.
    • Exposure to the elements, elevated noise levels, and vibrations.
    • Must work in confined quarters while wearing protective gear (e.g., respirators).
    • Physical tasks including bending, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, and climbing stairs can be grouped by category.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Read a tape measure and work with hand tools.
    • Assist the foreman in documenting the job.
    • Mentor new employees in safety practices and tasks.
    • Identify emergency equipment and signage.
    • Participate in Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA) for each job and when scopes change.
    • Maintain professional interaction with crew and customers.
    • Follow all safety rules and worksite guidelines.
    • Conduct inventory and properly rack, stack, and band materials.
    • Erect and dismantle scaffolds in tight or cramped quarters.
    • Inspect and update scaffold tags daily.
    • Maintain environmentally responsible housekeeping practices.
    • Perform and inspect safe rigging duties.
    • Follow OSHA standard 1926.451 for scaffold construction, revision, and dismantling.
    • Assist with rigging, fire watch, back-loading boats, and more.
    • Design scaffolds to provide safe access to designated work areas.
    • Immediately report all incidents to supervisor.
    • Supply identification for scaffolds.
    • Learn and utilize scaffold hand signals effectively.

    • Conduct periodic quality assessments of HSE processes to enhance personal coaching and mentoring effectiveness and demonstrate ownership in the successful implementation of HSE programs.
