Job Description: Micro-Surfacing Paver Operator

The base of operations for this position is located in Birmingham, AL but the person in this position is not required to live in Birmingham. This is primarily a travel position, so we are flexible about living locations. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, be detail-oriented, and possess strong leadership skills. As the Micro-Surfacing Paver Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper mix, preparation, and correct operation of the paver and spreader box. You will play a crucial role in instructing the box hands on adjustments and overseeing the laydown operation while paving.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the paving operation as the Micro-Surfacing Paver Operator, ensuring a positive and efficient work environment.
• Ensure the proper mix of materials for paving.
• Prepare and operate the paver and spreader box, making necessary adjustments for optimal performance.
• Provide clear instructions to box hands throughout the day, guiding adjustments to the spreader box and addressing any issues during the laydown operation.
• Maintain awareness of the surroundings to ensure a safe working environment.
• Monitor material usage, make calculations, and keep accurate records of material quantities for reporting to foremen and inspectors.
• Communicate potential hazards and safety concerns to the team.
• Use a handheld radio to communicate directly with the truck driver attached to the paver when needed.
• Continuously learn and adapt to the various aspects of the paver operation.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Micro-Surfacing Paver Operator in a construction or paving environment.
• Positive attitude and strong leadership skills.
• Knowledge of asphalt mixtures and paving materials.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot pavers and spreader boxes.
• Effective communication skills to instruct and guide box hands and communicate with the truck driver.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to make calculations and keep accurate records.
• Awareness of safety protocols and the ability to identify and address potential hazards.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to the evolving challenges of the paver operation.

The posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications. Upper ranges are flexible.
