Position Overview

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the entire production process during their shift, ensuring efficient operations, and prioritizing workplace safety during shift.  The individual will manage shift personnel, troubleshoot production issues, and coordinate with other departments to meet production targets. 

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)

  • Supervises all day-to-day cement processing operations in a safe manner while maintaining environmental permit requirements and protecting the equipment from damage.  Maintains quality control standards while maximizing process efficiency and production.
  • Directly supervises shift production personnel.  Indirectly supervises all lower-level supervisors and hourly personnel.  In the absence of a department manager or the plant manager, the shift supervisor is responsible for all plant personnel at the plant site and supervises with the authority of the plant manager.
  • Supervises and trains systems and control operators.
  • Fosters a positive work environment and promotes teamwork.
  • Conducts timely performance appraisals and recommends salary adjustments according to company policy.
  • Responsible for communication of company policies and procedures to departmental employees.
  • Inspects all systems in the field and coordinates and supports maintenance repairs with the maintenance department.
  • Responsible for using and maintaining daily logs, communication book, accident reports, maintenance requests and daily shift logs.
  • Responsible for maintaining employee timecards weekly to submit for payroll.
  • Responsible for completing area audits.
  • Always maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
  • Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company and plant safety policies, rules and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cement manufacturing activity/processes, MSHA safety rules, etc.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, equipment operation, and maintenance.

Education & Experience

  • Completion of High School or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of previous cement processing experience required.
  • Prior experience with rotating shift work is preferred.
  • Prior Systems Operator / Process Attendant experience in a cement plant preferred.
  • Prior Control Room Operator experience in a cement plant preferred.
  • Prior Supervisory responsibilities in a cement plant preferred.

Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cement chemistry is preferred.
  • Ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken words.
  • Ability to communicate information in speaking.
  • Ability to read and understand information presented in writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using appropriate interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise own work and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to abide by company safety policies and procedures and to work safely within a fast-paced environment.
