Job Responsibilities: Individual is responsible for designing, coordinating, and leading projects as required for fire sprinkler systems in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. He or she will design and create the finished representation for the sprinkler systems using drawing and drafting skills and tools. The designer will be responsible for the initial planning of a project including scheduling of time, creating material stock listing, analyzing changes, and solving initial design problems. Close coordination with the project manager, superintendent, and sales representative will be required throughout the life of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review construction contract and coordinate with subcontractors and General Construction to gather the required information to plan and execute a design strategy for each project
  • Thorough use of analytical thinking and problem solving, determine construction feasibility and systems possibilities
  • Create detailed drawings through extensive use of AutoSprink CAD software to produce permit and shop drawings
  • Provide hydraulic and systemic calculations
  • Ensures Accountability: Holding self and others accountable to meet requirements.
  • Communicates Effectively: Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project’s sprinkler system
  • Create stock list for all material required throughout the project
  • Maintain design historical records and historical records for all functions for future use
  • Coordinate with other departments within office to ensure proper handover of job information
  • Work with the Project Manager to identify changes in projects that impact cost, schedule, or labor requirements
  • Assist/lead during field check stage of the project
  • Ensure work complies with codes and permits
  • Develop initial schedules for preliminary project work
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure company is meeting customers’ expectations
  • Perform Project Management functions as required
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed by supervisor (Design Manager)
  • Review design concepts with sales representatives
  • Bring design in under budgeted hours
  • Review materials lists thoroughly before hand-off to sales and/or purchasing
  • Ensure all plans have accurate dimensions before hand-off to fitters

 

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of fire sprinkler system design experience required
  • GED or High School Diploma (college education or degree in engineering preferred, but not mandatory)
  • NICET in Water Based Systems Layout or equivalent required (Level II or higher preferred)
  • Ability to work in-person at a physical office location in Greater Seattle Area 40+ hours per week
  • Valid driver’s license to drive to/from work and to/from jobsites for survey work
  • Physical ability and jobsite safety awareness knowledge to walk (and potentially climb) projects to complete survey work needed for proper design.
  • Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD, AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software
  • Proven ability and track record of performing work in a timely manner and meeting deadlines
  • Three years' experience in commercial. industrial, and residential design
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Ability to coordinate and work well with others
  • Excellent communication skills-written and verbal
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer drug test, background and reference check

 

   

Working Conditions

Expected working hours and conditions are as follows:

7:00am – 3:30pm Monday thru Friday in a professional office setting with normal working conditions and also time spent visiting construction sites.

 

 

Physical Requirements

Repetitive tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Typing
  • Computer operation
  • Sitting at a workstation or desk
  • Telephone correspondence
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain at a job site, and possibly climb stairs or ladders

Able to carry survey equipment weighing up to 50 lbs

 

Salary Range: $32.00-$47.00 per hour Depending on Experience

Paid Time Off: 80 hours upon completion of 90-day probationary period
