Automatic Temperature Control Junior Technician
(ATC Jr. Technician)
Reports to: ATC Field Supervisor, ATC Manager
Job Summary: The ATC Jr. Technician is responsible for learning the various tasks while assigned to assist and work with Field Technicians, Field Supervisor, and Department Manager. This will entail learning and reviewing Mechanical system installation & design as well as Control system installation & design. The ATC Jr. Technician will be responsible for assisting Field Technicians in the proper startup and commissioning of projects assigned by the Project Manager/Project Engineer. This includes material delivery and coordination, assisting in performing a point-to-point checkout per company procedures with other technicians, assisting in completing project commissioning documentation, working with various application software, and assisting in performing software/hardware calibration required for proper equipment and system operation. This position also includes helping to maintain on-going project as-built documentation, archival of project user files and performing warranty related service calls. Additionally, the ATC Jr. Technician will work closely with our installation subcontractors and coordinate work with them to ensure projects are completed on time and per code, standards, and contract requirements. The ATC Jr. Technician will also provide support to the Project Management, Service, and Special Projects departments for technical issues as they arise on various projects. This will include an array of items related to the HVAC, Plumbing, and Controls fields. The ATC Jr. Technician will report to the ATC Sr. Technician and the Field Supervisor to review each support/warranty item and provide support documentation to the appropriate team as necessary to bring the issues to resolution.
REQUIREMENTS
• Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional overtime during afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed. Hours may involve start times as early as 5:00 a.m. NOTE: Specific project requirements may require afternoon or evening/night shifts.
• Must be able to obtain a minimum-security clearance and pass a background investigation.
• Insurable MVR required. Able to drive company van or truck and maintain vehicle in accordance with company policies.
• The ability to follow work assignments and interface directly with customers.
• Will provide and maintain personal tools to meet the needs of the position to include basic screw drivers, pliers, adjustable wrenches, and digital multimeters (VAC, VDC, A, mA, R), etc.
• Possess strong interpersonal skills including ability to resolve conflict professionally with the assistance of management.
• Communicate effectively in English (oral, verbal, and written).
• A willingness to learn and develop skills in ATC controls applications, controls engineering, and programming and apply knowledge in the daily work assignments.
• A willingness to learn of HVACR systems, gas distribution systems, and commercial refrigeration.
• A willingness to learn design for mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for commercial and institutional facilities and apply knowledge in the daily work assignments.
• A willingness to learn building and energy codes as well as energy and commissioning standards and apply knowledge in the daily work assignments.
• Shall be engaged in continual trade education and be responsible to maintain passing scores. Training opportunities may include factory product certification, In-class training, on-line training classes and personal study materials.
• Must be able to walk, stand, bend, climb, crawl, and stoop; able to be exposed to heights as well as tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; able to be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc.); able to work with both hands extended above head. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
DUTIES:
1. ATC Projects:
a) Assist in project installations based on ATC submittals per contract documents for projects under the guidance of Senior Technicians.
b) Assist in performing site surveys of equipment and existing controls.
c) Work as a field liaison to provide information of the project for installation to our PM, field, and subcontractors.
d) Coordination for materials required on projects.
e) Assist in point-to-point checkout of hardwired Inputs/outputs to ensure proper installation per the engineering drawings and per specifications.
f) Assist in point-to-point check-out of TPI/Portal serial interface points to ensure proper software set-up and communication per the engineering drawings and per specifications.
g) Assist in modifying programming per specified sequence of operation to ensure proper system operation per sequence of operations.
h) Provides feedback to the installation subcontractor and installation supervisor to ensure the installation is completed on time and per codes, specifications and, company standards.
i) Assist in project commissioning with proper commissioning sheets and system documentation per the company procedures and standards with minimal supervision.
j) Assist in on-site testing of the application programming to ensure the sequences of operation function per specifications and checks on-line operation of the graphical user interface to ensure proper graphical representations are used and the dynamic variables are displaying correct values.
k) Complete each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines as defined first by the estimate and then the re-estimate.
l) Work in a time & material conscious manner to maintain budgets for ATC Projects.
2. Project Documentation
a) Maintain working As-Built drawings and documentation during the project and provides this documentation to the Project/Team Engineer along with constructive feedback regarding the project. This information, as well as the completed commissioning documentation, will be incorporated into the As-Built /O & M Manuals required for completion of the project.
b) Document job site conditions into daily field reports and upload to office daily.
c) Maintain a copy of the up-to-date user files and when the project commissioning is completed, archives the latest copy on the company server per company procedures.
d) Maintain written documentation on all project issues that could result in change orders, cost impact items, equipment damage, safety infractions, incomplete system functions and exceptions to the contract documents. Identify such issues on a timely basis and communicate promptly to the Project Manager/Project Engineer. Properly identify change order circumstances and relay to the Project Manager/Project Engineer.
e) Submit completed time and expense sheets in a timely manner to the Project Manager/Project Engineer in accordance with company policy/procedure.
3. Technical/ Warranty Support
In support of other departments with our company, we shall provide warranty support on projects normally outside our direct scope. The ATC Jr. Technician shall work with Sr. Technicians, Field Supervisor, or Department
Manager to review contract drawings, submittals, and final installation to determine deficiencies in operation resulting in system performance issues. Work with manufacturer support, engineers, and installation crews to define the action needed to correct the system deficiencies.
a) All requests for project support shall be reviewed and approved by the ATC Supervisor/ATC Manager prior to involvement.
b) Phone support to other divisions that do not interfere with current assigned workload as permitted. Should this support develop into a time-consuming endeavor, consult with the ATC Supervisor for approval.
c) Document all steps of the process to provide comprehensive overview of technical analysis for management review.
d) Review site conditions to survey reported issues.
e) Confirm installations are in compliance with original contract documents.
f) Define original issues as they relate to problems reported.
g) Provide supporting documentation to substantiate suggested repairs/upgrades.
h) Assist Service, Special Projects, Construction, and Engineering Teams with troubleshooting of ATC and Building Automation System related issues for various systems installed by controls subcontractors such as JCI, Siemens, and ESI, etc. If troubleshooting third-party ATC system is going to exceed 16 hours or $5,000.00 in cost, get Project Executive Approval.
i) Assist Service, Special Projects, Construction, and Engineering Teams with troubleshooting of HVACR and Equipment related issues that are complicated and out of the ordinary. If troubleshooting HVACR equipment/system is going to exceed 16 hours or $5,000.00 in cost, get Project Executive Approval.
j) Provide assistance to Engineering as requested for projects undertaken by the company.
k) Assist the ATC Supervisor and Coordinator with updating reports/schedules regarding job status, scheduling, staffing, and client satisfaction etc.
l) Communicate with the ATC Supervisor for manpower requirements.
m) Communicate with the Project Manager, Service Coordinator, and Engineer of Record regarding the job status and follow up necessary.
General Responsibilities:
a) Abide by and enforce OSHA and S&D’s Safety policies including ensuring timely reporting of injuries and accidents of S&D employees and subcontractors.
b) Maintain and protect confidential information including cost data and proprietary technical information.
c) Maintain a positive attitude and demeanor to meet the One Team/One Vision goal.
d) Attend team meetings.
e) Ensure that a daily site checklist and time reports for each project are submitted.
f) Properly fill out the start-up checklist, pre-functional checklist, system readiness checklist, etc. as necessary for each project.
g) Assist in Owner’s Training Sessions as required.
