Job Summary

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems in construction projects, with a focus in all realms of the construction industry. This role requires specialized knowledge of mechanical systems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Mechanical Estimators Responsibilities

  • Analyze mechanical drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical systems.
  • Estimate labor, material, and equipment costs for HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other estimators to ensure comprehensive project estimates.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs for mechanical components and systems.
  • Research and stay current with mechanical equipment pricing, industry trends, and estimating techniques.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather crucial project information.
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals and presentations for management and clients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Utilize and maintain proficiency in industry-standard estimating software.
  • Ensure all mechanical estimates comply with company standards, building codes, and industry regulations.

Mechanical Estimators Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in pipeline, commercial, and renewable energy projects.
  • Strong ability to analyze conceptual designs and translate them into accurate cost projections.
  • Proven experience in costing conceptual designs and contributing to design development decisions.
  • Expertise in developing cost estimates from incomplete or evolving design information
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and process piping.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency standards and sustainable design principles.

Required Experience

  • Mechanical Estimating 2- 5+ Years

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) from the American Society of Professional Estimators
  • ASHRAE certifications (e.g., BEAP, BEMP)
  • Proficiency in mechanical estimating software such as Trimble MEP, FastPIPE, or FastDUCT
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software like Revit MEP
  • Knowledge of LEED certification requirements
