About the Position

The Carpenter role is essential and assists the project team in ensuring timely and successful completion of construction projects in a safe manner.

  • Assist in mentoring apprentices and others around you
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to use lasers for elevation placement

Construct formwork for placement of concrete.

  • Assemble columns or wall framework (all types: gang forms, stick build, Simon forms, etc.).
  • Set anchor bolt templates, tightening and loosening bolts.
  • Erect temporary handrails and associated safety related items.
  • Sawing, drilling, fastening material together.
  • Install frames, doors and hardware on commercial construction jobs.
  • Install roof blocking and inwall blocking,
  • Notify jobsite Superintendent of potential issues immediately
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on large commercial construction jobsites required.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Current Carpenter’s Union membership highly preferred, or ability to gain membership card.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

General understanding of construction materials; General knowledge of safety in a construction environment; Ability to work with hand tools; Ability to operate a forklift, scissors lift and articulating boom lift; Ability to lift 10-50 pounds frequently; Ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally; Ability to multi-task; Ability to work safely and efficiently; Ability to work individually and with others and communicate; and the following Poettker Construction competencies: Safety First, Quality Work, Honesty and Integrity, Trustworthy Relationships, Family Oriented, Effective Partnerships, and Fiscal Responsibility.

 Physical Demands

Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation, including lifting and/or carrying up to 50 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally, sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, crawling, and balancing.

Additional Information

The salary range for this position is in line with our local collective bargaining agreements and level of training within the union. The current range of wages is from Apprentice ( starting at $20.30 hrly) through Journeyman level (up to $48 hrly) and can vary based on shift, location, and additional responsibilities.
