GPS Technician

Iowa City, IA & Cedar Rapids, IA

The GPS technician performs tasks involving physical labor, operating, and maintaining GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment on concrete paving projects. This position operates a variety of equipment and computer programs primarily with the paving and grading divisions.

Essential Functions

  • Setup, install, and calibrate GPS equipment on construction sites, including GPS receivers, base/rovers, and data collectors
  • Survey, shoot topos, and set stakes
  • Check rock grade, finish grade and control points
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and reliability of collected data
  • Conduct regular inspections of GPS equipment, ensuring proper functionality
  • GPS site localizations
  • Work in a team environment
  • Lift at least 50 lbs
  • Promotes and complies with all company safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain certifications required by all state and federal agencies and company safety programs
  • Daily reporting of time, progress, and materials used thru election reporting as assigned
  • Maintain professional attitude with owners, inspectors, public, and co-workers
  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations

Job Type:

Pay:

  • $22-$26 per hour

Education/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Valid driver license required
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • GPS and/or Total Station experience preferred
  • CAD knowledge preferred
  • Previous concrete paving experience preferred
  • Physically able to work outside on construction sites in varying weather conditions
  • Detail oriented
  • Possess problem solving skills
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills

Schedule:

  • Generally 40-60 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, occasional half day Saturday
  • All hours are weather permitting

  • Various project sites; offices based in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids
